The blue city: narrow, confusing, garbage overloaded, fly invested, impressive, majestic, friendly, delicious, decorative, informative, chaotic,
On Sunday after arriving at our guesthouse we went to explore the city, which turned out not so easy in the labyrinth of narrow streets and market stalls. But finally
we made it to Sadar Market with the clocktower in the middle. And although it was Sunday and the city was on a strike (some told us the reason was that two holy cows died of eating plastic, others made a different story out of that and rumored muslims had murdered 20 holy cows...!) most of the market was open. And as it goes here in India, we stopped at a spice shop only to buy some curry mixture but then the shopowner dragged us into his friends fabric shop around the corner, where we ended up for two hours chatting to Vikram, getting helpful insights into fabric qualities and indian selling strategies, but of course also buying pillows, poufs and wall decoration...
A coffee on the rooftop of Pal Haveli Hotel helped to recover from that and prepare for a second round on the market (tea and sandals this time).
In the evening we had a nice Thali (menu) at our hotels terrace consisting of different curries, breads and rice which was awesome!
On Monday we hiked up to Fort Mehrangarh- the biggest in India! Quite impressive how it towers over the city and the beautiful, delicate decoration in the architecture! We missed the ticket booth so Stan left me sitting at one of the gates for 10 minutes to get them. And as soon as I was alone, people started to stopp and take a closer look at me, stand next to me for photos and put their kids into my arms. It was a bit awkward to be turned from the tourist to the point of interest ;-)
Afterwards we visited Umaid Bhawan palace which was pretty impressive as well and then spend the afternoon chilling in our airconditioned room which was quite a treat after the sightseeing at 36°C!
Diner was on the rooftop of Pal Haveli again- a very nice and proper restaurant with fantastic views!
