The night after my last post I ended up getting a little sick in the middle of the night. It was nothing major just threw up a little and felt a little off. I woke up the next morning not feeling so great and didn't want to leave my bed. I don't think it was food related mostly just felt off from being in the sun all day and I think my body might of been a little thrown off from the change in my routine since leaving Vikasa. I decided to take that day easy and just sleep it off and stay in my room. I did want to try and find somewhere cheaper for that night so I checked out and was still only able to find something for 600baht. It was actually a really nice room with aircon and a tv and a nice clean washroom with a hot shower. I was okay with paying that for the night since I knew I probably wouldn't be eating much and just spending the day in my room so it ended up working out fine. I slept until about 400pm and then decided to drag myself out of bed, take a shower and get some fresh air. I went to a little restaurant by the beach which had comfy pillows in which you could just relax on and chill out. I just had a fruit shake and read for a bit before walking over to the west beach to watch the sunset. The sunsets here are beautiful and I've been trying to watch them as much as possible. I then headed back to the east side and tried to eat some pad Thai but ended up packing up most of it since I didn't have much of an appetite.
I eventually went back to my room and watched some tv until I fell asleep. The next day I woke up feeling a million times better and was ready to make the trek over to Ton Sai to finally get a cheaper room. I was just in luck when I got to the first set of bamboo bungalows because they had one room that had just become available. I had to wait a bit until they finished cleaning the room but I was thrilled to have found something more in my budget. It was only 250baht a night for a bungalow with shower, toilet and mosquito net. Definitely a huge down grade from the previous two nights but I needed to find something more along my budget.
I bumped into the German girl that I met the first day just as I was checking in and she asked if she could share my room with me. I guess she was sharing one with a guy we met our first night there and felt more comfortable sharing with a girl. I was ok with this since it makes things even cheaper for me and a little less scary sleeping in these bungalows alone. There are many openings in the huts where wildlife can creep in so it's nice to have someone with you since it does get pretty scary at night. So far I've seen a couple of decent size snails, geckos, a cockroach and squirrels running around the top part. I try and remind myself that it's really no different then camping and at least we have the mosquito net. There is also no electricity on this part of the island during the day. They only run the generators from 7pm til 7am.
After sorting out my room I met the group that Patrizia (German girl) was hanging out with and who were teaching her how to climb. There are about 8 of them, all friends from Australia who came here on a climbing vacation. They had all their own equipment as well as a bit of extra gear. They offered me to come join them as well and use their equipment and they would help us climb. We ended up doing two different walls. The first was a bit tricky and I only made it about halfway up. The second was graded the same level but I found much easier and was able to make it to the top quite easily. I had a blast and can really see myself getting more into climbing. After we were done climbing those walls we grabbed some lunch before we would head to a different spot to climb some more. It ended up pouring rain just as we were about to pay for our lunch so we were stuck waiting out the rain for a good hour and a bit. When it finally cleared up the boys said it would be too wet to climb right away so we headed to another area of the island which has a really nice beach a little cliff which you can jump off into the water. The cliff was about 5m high and a fun little climb up. We hung out the swimming an jumping off the cliff before we needed to head back to Ton Sai before it got to dark. We all went back to our rooms and had a much needed shower and met back up for dinner at a restaurant back behind our huts which has a big screen tv and lounge area where they play movies every night. I think the only English channel they get is HBO which seems to always just be playing movies so that's what they had on. We caught the end of one of the Harry Potter movies and the beginning of Inception before heading off to bed.
The boys were planning on getting up early and doing some harder climbs today so I opted not to join them. I didn't want to feel like I was slowing the down since they are here on a climbing vacation and probably don't want to be teaching some girls how to climb the whole time. I'm sure ill have some other chances to do so and it was really nice of them to help me out yesterday. Patrizia ended up going with them but I'm not sure if she was planning on climbing or just going to watch. I think I am going to just relax on the beach and possible rent a kayak for a bit depending on the weather. I feel a little off again today and my stomach wasn't feeling so great all last night. I hope I don't get too sick and this will all past soon. I've heard some pretty horrendous stories from people here who have gotten sick so I'm just going to take it easy until I feel better.
