Fox Glacier was a total washout, walked along the torrent river in hope to get to the Glaciers but after a km we gave up and turned back as it was getting dangerous and the last thing we wanted was to be cut off or slip. Drove off to Lake Matterson which is the famous reflection lake but it's was so misty and the cloud was wrapped around the mountains; we didn't even get out the van. Back to the campsite for hot showers and home made curry and DVD.
Arrived at Westport, this was more of a stop over then a planned visit. Went into town and brought Neishas birthday present! Had a stroll along the beach, so much drift wood had been washed up. Had a couple of glasses of NZ rose whilst watching a DVD of Johnny Cash story which was good.
Best plans never happen....we knew we were driving thru Richmond National park and passing Mt Richmond, the plan was to stop for an hour, cook lunch and take in the view. We kept driving thinking we will stop at the next rest area...well that never came! Ended up in a carpark next to a cemetery; at least we got no complaints
