G'morning, woke up after a good slumber to a non racing day....every second day is a day off in case of weather. It allows for rescheduling if its needed. So after another panic run to the loo.....hmm not sure ow t'spel at.....crickey getting an accent..... could be another Guinness effect......
Vivien had another breakfast set up for me and I think I beat Deb n Andrew down...not by much....pretty easy since I've really only got a couple of choices of what to wear...nuthin or the rags I packed...they are literally crawling around my bag on their own....some kinda bizzare thing to watch...bit freaky actually.
David asked whether I liked the blood sausage from yesterday...I notice the bizzare looking little round thing was missing...I only nibbled on it last time....they took notice. I mentioned I don't seem to fancy it.....still no idea whats in it....seems its similar to Hagas....without the stomach liner...mmmmm stomach liner.....no wander I was put off a bit it was missing its stomach liner....ack....but when in Rome (or a country conquered by them tee hee).....I did at least try it. He chuckled at me expression upon learning what was in it. Sure he was thinking daft continental......
A no plan day....except for one thing.....its Mad Sunday......pretty much a religion here. The circuit is run by anybody with wheels.....and is usually when most of the deaths occur. Google it seriously....crazy stuff. People dress in Gorilla outfits on bikes all sorts of bizarre outfits. But the piece d'la resistance.....is to run the mountain......
So the pmountain part of the track is converted to one way traffic for the duration of the race.....its a long segment.....up a mountain....and with long straightaways....wicked views...great corners....and no speed limit.....yup no limit....at all..... :)
Soooo its definately the first thing on me to do list for the day.... I packed up dressed for wet as it was raining :( .... hopped on the bike and off I went. I have never seen so many bikes in all me years in one place.....bonkers. The first town down the road is Ramsey. So I did stop there and look around. Found a section of road in town all blocked off n stuff...and a few bobbies standing around so pulled up and asked one what's all this on about? She was really nice and in an interesting accent started to tell me how its a course set up for a bunch of daft tards to go around town as fast as they can usually damaging themselves in the process...seems they were a bit tired of cleaning up the mess.....she then looked at me an said...."eww shuld av a go atit eww luk daft nuf!" Wasn't sure if it was a compliment or not....mentioned something about hmmm not sure if my rental contract was good enough for it...upon which she leaned in and tole me "ride it like eww stowl it dearie!" and gave me a wink...... was a weee bit speechless... was soooooo tempted but it wasn't for another couple of hours....the mountain was calling so I waved and off I went.
Went through the hairpin......and up the hill.....and saw the signs....mountain road closed....crap....so another bobby was there so asked him what happened....seems something spilt diesel all over the road so it was closed for another hour... interesting there was a speed trap leading up to the spot where the copper was. They do have rules and regs...definately do not speed through any town or village....you can get banned. Literally voted off the island!! LOL
Saw a cool looking pub on the Ramsey hairpin called the Swan back a bit so off I went....pulled in...got a great seat...and a guinness ordered and just in time for the Motogp from Catalayna was starting.....was awesome..nothing but bike gearheads in there to watch the race....so had a great view of it and a pint and some chips....just long enough for the road to open....Lorenzo cleaned up.
Hopped on the bike and headed for the mountain.....it was open.....it's so bizzare.....bikes of all sorts....once you clear a set of road cones you are good to go but for traffic.....this is the bizzare part I've never seen so many GSXr's ridden by poofs....outta be a law. It was wet drizzly but good grip.....I honked on it...and I still had the top box on....crap...I was blowing past folks like they were standing still.....topped out at about 130 (not metric either) was awesome!! Only skipped a beat on a left sweeper where the back end got light under heavy braking....gets a bit...interesting lets just say....but wow great fun! As you come to Greg Ny Baa a famous 90 degree corner with a restaurant pub on it cones funnel you back into normalcy.....coppers are standing there to remind you to drive normal again. The Mountain run is a hoot....
So had to park there to check it out....it was packed with bikes and folks mingling about. Got a coffee to warm up a bit and take it in. Nice place. Hopped on and headed to Douglas ....the big city here and where the start line and grandstands are. Holy traffic batman.....had to filter all over the place...bustling lil city with all the tourists..... I got to the Grandstands and pulled in...it was great walked all over pit lane....got on the podium....did the victory jumps thanked the fans.....and BMW.....LOL. Was great 101 years of history thats a long time....
Off to pit row. Sadly none of the Suzuki guys (Guy Martin) were there. Neither was Mcguiness..(Deb n Andrew bumped into him the night before at a concert they went to)...but you could see all the bikes and just wander around bit of a circus atmosphere....things for sale etc etc. I might see if I can do a grandstand viewing..... Very cool.
Soo wandered all over and eventually hopped on the bike for a rip into town...again...traffic holy crap.....but got to the promenade and just abandoned the bike on a sidewalk and off I went....great little town awesome atmosphere. Found the walking promenade and just strolled...cool shops, pubs, interesting people.....I think the island population more than doubles during the fortnight of the TT.... eryone earrrr is earrr cooz o the TeeTee...daft.... crap...Guinness effect agin.
So I finally ended up getting some food a restaurant the was called Capones...yup the gangster...pretty funny actually... not a great burger....burped and left and forgot me toque there.....hmm by the way.. no one in the UK seems to know what a toque is..... its a woolly hat to em......very strange. Wandered back found me ride and headed back to Kirk Michael ....and found myself at the pub across the street from me little bed for..it is a wee bit small but not quite a hobbit bed.... the Mitre...for another pint. All good, nice crowd to everyone is chatty.....
Ride the Mountain Mile...... Check!
