Howdy!
Well I noticed I'm sleeping in longer and my socks are getting very lively when I reach for em...Always a good time chasing em around the room. So I got up and managed to clear my head. I decided time for a lil walk about and no breakfast....I was under Diego's special orders that if I make it here....then I must go to Jubugo for breakfast.
This is where the best hams in the world are from apparently...he went on quite the monologue to tell me why. Black pigs that run wild n free eating nuts..(apparently this makes for good breakfast....no so much for mister piggy). Diego knows his food so just doing as I'm told...and its just down the road.
So after hosing off I wander around the town a llil bit to see where I am as I did get in a bit late in the night. The Parador is awesome in the day light too, took a few pics...and it was a great morning weather wise so decided best get a move on to not waste the day. Packed up...and hit the road, not before looking at the tire situation....I'm hooped....its bad and my next rides will be through some of the windiest roads to date so I was told. I need new tire....baddddddd. Must resist the twist sighhhhhhhh last thing I want is a blow out in the middle of nowhere. So I decide to pontificate the situation on the ride to Jubugo.
The town of Zafra is pretty nice but the Castle is the big feature I think....GPS gal to the rescue and Jubugo was only 80 km away....Its a great ride with no one on the hiway and the hiway is in great shape.
The landscape is changing I'm starting to get into low mountainous desert kinda area...it seems. Then I realize I'm in Andalusia ... mainly cause the sign told me. The road gets to be quite fun...and Pooooof....Jubugo....just a small one horse town so I pull in and have no idea where to go for breaky....so go up n down the streets..not a lot of em but every where you look is Jambone sign of some sort...then I find the towns central statue...its a guy carrying a ham...I kid you not. This must be the place for ham.
Locals are starting to wonder who the dork with the bike is ripping up n down the streets I suspect....so I best ask one for a good place for desayuno....(breakfast). Sure enough a guy is walking to me as I stare at the buildings and I ask him in espaniol....k this guy blabbed at me for 15 minutes...all I got out of that conversation and a lot of hand waving was "Good morning" outta it....wtf....did I go stupid overnight. Super friendly and he had 3 teeth...sooo I beg off...give a wave....and figure I'll find a place and what looks to be a restaurant appears. Ta da one pops up just ahead....so hop off, go inside and there are hams stacked up all over...smells great.
I'm in a lil bit of a hurry not actually sure why lol so ask the gal about breakfast and that I am suppose to have ham n eggs here. Sadly she waves of saying its not the right time....so I put on me pout and she babbled about she would make me something good. So went outside to wait and voila....she brought out ham n eggs lol. Locals were looking at me weird me going OHHH my god mmmmm this is so good every 2 secs.....loco turisto.....
Yaaaa the stuff is goooood. Need to see if I can find it at home but I know it won't be the same sadly. So I take it in and chat with the waitress for a lil bit and have a nice coffee. the coffee here is amazing by the way. It is thick and they only give a small glass. got to learn how to make it like this. Ahhh well enough lolly gagging time to hit Seville...stopping here was worth it just for the ham LOL..
Decide to call Diego....so pre paid sim card to da rescue. One of his
guys picks up and I tell him the story. I suggest I'm heading to
Seville and if they can prearrange something then it can work out
great. Diego was in a meeting but would get back to me asap. So all
sounds good.
GPS gal to the rescue...I just put Seville in with no specific spot...and off we went...again
not to far away...I think it was 80 km....mostly big hiway so kinda lame
ride...except to get back to a main hiway she put me through one heck of a goat path....was like an oxen cart trail....so I'm naving in the middle of nowhere on a goat traing and........ brrrrrinnnggggg the telephone is a ringing.
Sure enough its Diego. He has a place all set up but can not figure out why the tire wore out so fast....I suspect that the roads in portugal had a lot to do with it they do have a rougher texture...that plus a ....spirited....ride style might do the trick. He will email me the info and I can go to the place at 9 am tomorrow. Perfect!
Off I goooo. the ride is nothing great as its main hiway now....so just a fast ride....and seemed like a blink there is Seville on the horizon. I just let me gal nav.
Must say it is a challenge not knowing the"local" rules and area all at once thrown at you. So I pull over and man its getting hot out...29 yayyyy time to strip some layers. So I do and take a few mins to observe traffic....its simple...you can ride a bike anywhere you fit. No one honks....you can lane split...the lights are right above the stop line so you can't see them so you have to look at the light pole beside you a small light red and green is at the bottom pointed to the road and that is the signal you look at...cause you can see it. Rountabouts everywhere and scooters everywhere.....not many big bikes at all. Everyone is checking out the RT I'm noticing.
So my gal led me to the old district it seems so I figure if I put in cathedral I should find something. Sure enough...and its not far. Off I go...OMG the narrow winding streets one ways roundabouts again...no GPS...no idea how....She's even having a hard time babbling Calle this n calle that n plaza d dis....n a few ayyy karumbus I think....with the blue tooth in the helmet best description is a Spanish woodpecker tapping your head quite insistently and its a she and she's pissed. After the billionth roundabout and ally I had enough....a cafe. Yup thats for me. stop...park anywhere LOL bikes are great take helmet off and turn everything off. My focus is a cold cervaisa......
Sure enough they have some and it hit the spot, some cheese tapas....and I ask if I am close to the cathedral...she looks at me...and tells me its just around the corner...lol. I can walk from where I am. Soooooo I do.
WOW! Its massive....on a main public square....so I wander around and go into the side cathedral...its free and dumbass me forgot I had me ball cap on....just not trying to freak out the locals with me helmet head....hats in church bad....seems its harder for the lightening bolt to hit you. So this swat team rushes me all point at my hat...oopss I say.... actually it was an old security guy and he was pretty insistent...the swat team sounded better. Either way in my best oyyy vaiii I apologized.
This was a smaller side cathedral attached to the main one...its huge....so I take pics and take it in..can't believe how big and ornate it is. So off to the main one....it cost 12 euro I think. So no line or anything its about 1 pm I think and I go in. I got a lil audio tour guide. to...seems I need someone to natter in me ear...habit now.
Its masssssssiiieeeeee. so I find Columbus's tomb right away and wander all over the place taking pics of everything. Wow....amazing that they built these when they did. this is around 15th century. Off i wander to the tower....and its a hike up ramps that go round n round n round....not sure how high it is but the view from the top was worth it. Tood a bunch of pics and as i was concentrating BONNNNNGGGGGGGGGG. Just about crapped me pants....as teh bells started up...felt like the hunch back with out the hunch..yet ... anyways at least. My what big knockers they had. Knicked any ear wax I had out thats for sure. So I spent a couple of hours wandering around the place.....but time for a drink...is that wrong?
So outside right across the street ..... its walking area only and they have a train system...tonnes of cafes...so I pick one and order a nice cool mojito...again is that wrong....I was hot. Seems to have tasted better thinking it was wrong I suspect. Just people watched....tonnes of tourists...lot of germans and brits. I've not bumped into a fellow Canuck as of yet. Its quite relaxing to outside the cafes....specially when its a great weather day such asit is.
Time to find a hotel...the place has free wifi so all of two minutes later I find a one that's only a kilometer away...perfect location and cheap so I book it. Tomorrow is a wander around town day too and I could use it.
I found me bike again and hopped on...plugged in the address and off I went should only take a minute..its only 1 km...only 1 km....wellllll...that is about 100 roundabouts and 1000 turns...up n down side streets barely wide enough for the bike....I was dizzy by the time I found the place....crapper....great location but sheesh.....I hadno idea where I was. They had undergound parking as its down a tiny side street...cool youdrive into an elevator and it takes youdown to the bowels.
Unpack....and hose off......was hot all day. Nice to have just street colths on so to celebrate igo for a wander....looking for a nice cafe. Well the firsgt person I ask...is a guy sitting on a scooter looking bored...Meet my new friend guess....Antoni. He not only gave me directions he took me there and sat with me and practiced english and I worked on me Spanish. So he wanted to tour me all over the city and was freakin me out a bit later as i was lost and not sure how I could shake this guy if I needed to. got me street smarts on so told him my friends weere waiting for me at the hotel...and he insisted on leading me back to it.
