So woke up at the crack of early.......all good. Spent the wee hours looking at a map.....so plan so far.....wing it!
So had breaky chatted for a bit and unfortunately Dave was in worse shape then the night before....he wanted drugs.....must have been bad as Dave treats his body like a temple....not like me...I like to think of it as an experimental playground. When one falls off the monkey bars...one goes on an experimental journey at the local drugstore to find a chemical concoction that numbs the results of your misadventure. Unfortunately Dave just found the sand box....he needs to find his chemical happy place :) Last seen planning Dave was planning to go to town to see a doc and get some drugs....good on ya Dave hope it works out. Welcome to the playground.....
Thanks again guys for the awesome hospitality!
So I hit the road...decided to head towards Bragg Creek. Off I went. Love the new tires got to work em out leaving Dave and Darla's.....that road is sweet...wonder what that speed limit is on it.....
So Bragg Creek is a short hop away....found a coffee shop and Latte....and thought about where to next....well seems that Waterton Park via Pincher Creek is the way to go.....
Hopped on me stead and off I went. Hmmm so Frank slide is kinda on the way......might as well check it out. Saw it when I was knee high to a grass hopper. So by the way...the weather is already getting a bit warm Mesh gear is king......So decided to check out the interpretive center as it has a view point..... okay its a small view point....and it was full of Hudderites (spelling ?) that seemed to be speaking german. I was in my riding gear, pants, boots, jacket...lot of black stuff. Well they all kinda quit talking and stuff whence I approached......I definitely think they thought I was the devil or something.....it was like the parting of the red sea....I got a nice view.
So took some pics....and hit the road. Took the back roads to pincher creek.....its a nice ride. I do dig the Windmills and it was windy....surprise surprise....but hot. Quick bite in town and off......now the ride starts to get good. So approaching the park you get wicked views of Chief mountain and a bunch of others....and its a windy road thru the forest to get to the border crossing. Did I mention that there is almost nobody on the road.....then the moment I feared happened....I got to the border. So they got like 10 guys standing there looking for someone to throw in jail. I pull up and man......why do they have to be rude. Like as ambassadors of their nation....its just wrong. Not one of the dolts cracked a smile.....even after my classic response to the "Are you planning on leaving anything in the US?" to which I always reply "Well, I was planning on going to the bathroom." Got nothing.......not even a grin...dude just stared at me....could of swore I saw him reaching for a glove....my sphincter definitely did a pucker...then with a wave..I was deemed a non criminal, non terrorist worthy of treading on the sacred soil. If only they knew my true intents...bwah ha hahahahahahahahah....(just kidding case they read this)
So off I went...decided to cut across the park and then swing down to Kalispel. So as I'm getting near the park entrance (Glacier park). I see a big ole cloud sort of where I think I need to go.....so I pull over in Babb to put on the rain gear...just in case. This takes a few minutes and in that time a bike rides buy 2 up and they both are waving at me (real friendly like). So I wave back and go about my business. Pack up and start to go. As I go I then get a clear shot of the sky in the direction I am about to go..nasty nasty big ass black cloud...right where I'm going. Then it starts to rain..pretty good. The bike that passed me then came screaming by me in the other direction and headed for the restaurant I was just at.....hmmmm....a few signs.....looks like a good time for a coffee so I do a s*** hook and head back to the same restaurant.
Great timing it started to pour. So this couple introduces themselves Rob and Janet from around Lethbridge on a day ride thru the park...they have been there a million times. Nice folks. So I take a look at the sky again and it seems to be brightening up....I decide its time to go. They follow suit and offer to ride together an lead the way. Awesome. so off we go....they get to the park gates...he has a pass....tells them I'm with them...and they wave me through...awesome....
That park is amazing....turns out they only opened the pass the day before. Rob new what to look out for and he was not a slow rider so off we went. Freaking amazing.....everywhere is an amazing view. At the top you are passing thru plowed snow more then 10 feet thick. water pouring down the walls of the cliffs....amazing...I am snapping pics and video like crazy...hope I got some good ones....
At the top of the pass they turned around so I was on me own. Wicked cool riding not much traffic....but got hung up as they are doing road repairs so one lane closed and you have to wait about 10 minutes to pass.....this is where the flag gal tells me that it was a wicked storm that passed though...hail...lightening the works. Glad |I had that coffee...as it was sunny and hot as I was passing through. This brings up a lil story.....to haunt me later. When riding through various climates you layer up and down as appropriate. Pain in ass but nice.....so I have a jacket with 3 layers...mesh with padding, rain proof layer, and a warmth layer. So it was hot...I had to peel the rain layer off. So I did and put it in me top box. Off I went.......then had to pull over for some silly reason..a little later.....got off the bike...crap...forgot to lock the box....looked inside ...yup think everything is there, off I go.
The ride down was crazy...no one there and cranking and banking like crazy....dragging the pegs on both sides.......definitely meeting first criteria of trip...even tire wear.......
So then you end up in a forest.....along the lake on the run to Kalispel.....nice turns...but major feaking deer every where...go around a corner and poof Bambi standing the middle of the road. Lost count of how many were out eating supper.
So roll into Missoula......kinda late....long day of riding...neck sore back sore big ass cramps....in neck. So time to find a hotel, find a Super 8....Bike friendly...awesome...they even have a King size bed. I'm in. Find some grub....the gas station across the street has beer....I'm set....Dammm love those Pint size cans...for like 1.25. Sweeeet.
Crash time....must figure out where going tomorrow
