So the Kempinsky (spelt wrong last time) is pretty awesome to stay at...there are infinity pools everywhere and wicked views of the Dead Sea. Even saw the lights of Jerusalem...its only a few clicks away....wild. So the bed was comfy....but ya know what...if the couple next door decides to swing from the Chandlers it doesn't matter how swanky the place is. So we got an early wake up call to the sounds of the wild. We survived....not sure if she did.....
So breakfast and we hit the road....off to Jerash.....What's Jerash you say....only site of the LARGEST STANDING ROMAN RUIN THAT'S WHAT!!!
Cool drive there only about an 1 hour and a bit....seems that Fridays are like our Sundays so no traffic. Made the drive a breeze.
Jordan is a pretty bizarre place....the landscape at this end is very different from the south. Stuff growing everywhere....and people everywhere. To get to Jerash we have to drive through and past Amman in a northerly direction. So saw the whole city....its very hilly so the ears take a beating up and down all the time. But cool to see none the less. Did not know how many Palestinians lived here till now it's a big number....we drove past some of the camps....holy crap they crammed em in. Interesting...this is when we found out our driver was Palestinian but married a Jordanian...so he is okay, because that would make him a citizen. He got to Jordan after the 73 war.
More windy roads and voila...we are there. We hired an old guide to take us though the place and he was good....slow and steady showed us all the good stuff. The place is huge...and only 20% has been uncovered. The roads have marks from the chariots as they drove over. The columns are in great shape. Pretty cool and definitely worth the drive. Check out the pics....by the way its really tough picking pics to put on the blog....hope I'm getting folks a good view of what we are seeing....the video is going to be a bi$#h to make......
Shauna thought it was pretty dang cool to traipse around the place. We swung back thru the amphitheatre...they still have shows in it, it is in that good of shape. The seats were all id'd with roman numerals. Pretty cool.
If you stand on in the center of the floor you can rip a piece of paper and a person at the top of the theatre, anywhere in the theatre, which is quite a ways away can hear it no problem, even a whisper....if there is no wind. They had their version of a Pipe band playing...sounded pretty cool from the top.
We sat there for a bit just to take in the place....thing I need to watch Rome (the series) now.....not just for the T&A of course.....ha ha. Heck I bet Shauna will even watch, even though it is historical.....
So we grab some grub at the local restaurant at the site. Good food....come to think of it the food here has been really good.....but dang...need me some bacon....not beef bacon....real bacon......ain't gonna happen here though....yup there it is...just heard the call to prayer again, definitely no bacon today.....
The next stop was a ruin in rough shape at the top of a mountain in Amman. Driving there we drove thru old Amman....wowser night and day....it used to be a camp for the Palestinians now it is a camp without the camp. They are so packed in it is crazy....the streets are barely a car width wide. So we climbed up more mountain...starting to feel like a billy goat. Our driver filled us in a bit on the way it is....very interesting to hear first hand....
We got there ok and from the top you can see all of old Amman and some of the new Amman. The ruin is an old greek roman ruin. We didn't bother getting a guide on this one and just went exploring. Pretty neat, just not as in good of shape as Jerash because of an earth quake long time ago. Either way it was pretty cool except the sun went behind some clouds and the wind picked up, so Shauna was a bit chilled....she put on her Babba look and was ok after that.
From here we wondered around old Amman...crazy town.....can't get over how packed in people are here......
Time to crash...so off to the hotel. The Four Seasons....not bad. Not a great view...but great service. We are definitely getting tuckered....and I can not shake this thing I got....hacking all over the dang place. Shauna is in good shape just a bit of a nose run, and her ears are taking a beating from all the ups and downs.
Ok gonna be a weird day tomorrow....early rise catch plane go to Cairo....crazy town....not even sure where we are gonna go. We got a driver and some ideas...think Cotton sheets are on the agenda somewhere.......Captain I'm given er all she's got but the bags canna hold er any more....the bags canna take it.......(ok not sure how a Scotty impersonation works here). Probably end up at the pyramids again at some point.....
