Well after La Paz we travelled for 16 hours by coach to Santa Cruz where we were getting our flight to Buenos Aires, the journey wasnt too bad, I think were used to them by now! When we arrived in Santa Cruz we were knackederd and just went to the first hostel we were offered; it was a dive but we were only there for two nights so we didnt really mind, the two days were pretty uneventful really, just counting the days till Buenos Aires, we had heard some great stuff about it!
So here we are Buenos Aires and I cant believe how big it is, Im sure its about the size of London and its really buzzing! Its a great place with a great atmosphere! Their lifestyle is so different to ours, they love there food here especially the steaks, they have all kinds and they are the nicest steaks I ever had and so cheap, sweet as! We arrived around six and had some trouble getting a hostel but eventually we sorted out a really nice one which makes a change from the ones weve been staying in recently! After settling in we went out for dinner at a great steak resturant, this was about half eleven which is not unusual (there were still people arriving at one in the morning to have dinner!). I had a tenderloin steak with mustard sauce and sauted potatoes, we shared some house red and had a coffee and it all came to about a fiver, the best steak Ive had!
After the meal we headed back to the hostel and prepared for our first night out in Buenos, around here people dont go out till about three in the norning and dont get home till about 9, well youve gotta join in the culture! We grabbed a few beers at the hostel and eventually headed out about three to a place called Sunset. It was a mission away but very cool, it was huge and there were people everywhere, completely hedonistic, we had a great night and got back about half seven, but when we left the club was still banging out the music! Were going to a Boca Juniors footy game tomorrow which Im looking forward to, followed by a steak probably, love Buenos already!
It was the Boca Juniors game yesterday which was quality, it was a local derby between them and Racing Club, who are near the bottom so Boca were expecting to beat them! The ground was full of atmosphere and was very intimidating especially as we were in the terraces! The stadium is in a very dodgy area and we had heard stories of muggings and all sorts but we were ok, had my money hid in my sock and everything! The fans were amazing they had flags all over the place and there was a band playing and when they scored it was mental, on the terraces you get knocked all over the place, it was a fun game even if the quality of football was rubbish it ended up as a two all draw and that was with three penaliites in one game!
After the game we had a reservation at a steak buffet restaurant which we were very excited about! This place did not disapoint! It was incredible, we had a free reign of a massive selection of meat, salads, chips, deserts and a drink. The meat was an endless supply of any cut of beef, pork with plum sauce, chorizo sausages, whole chickens, ribs and offal, you could go back as many times as you like and the salad was extensive! This is my list of consumption for the evening:
- Two large beef steaks, one rare, one medium
- One cut of chicken including wing and drumstick
- Two chorizo sausages
- Two selections of pork, one with plum sauce and one without
- A large portion of spare ribs
- Three plates of salad
- Two portions of chips
- For pudding I sampled some chocolate and vanilla ice cream
- And to wash it all down 1 litre of mineral water
Delicious, glutony is a great thing! All of this cost us about 5 pounds, worth every penny although I did feel quite ill at the end!
Today we have been attempting to burn of a few of last nights exploits by cruising around the city, we visited the Recoleta graveyard where Evita is kept and generally had a walk around, Buenos is a great city, love it to pieces!
