We spent a couple more days relaxing in Buenos Aires and generally indulged in many gastronomic delights. We watched the mighty Liverpool dominate Chelsea once again in knock out competition, Benitez rules, loved it when he sat on the touchline watching the penalties! And we watched Man U get cained by AC Milan, oh well I would have liked a Liverpool, Man U final!
After spening an entire week in Buenos (which flew by) it was time to enter our second to last country, the two times World Cup winners Uruguay. We got the Buquebus over the river and then got a following 2 hour bus to Montevideo. We arrived at our hostel and settled in. After a quick walk around it was clear that Montevideo in some aspects was pretty similar to Buenos just smaller and generally not as good, it didn't have the same atmosphere and the architecture didn't quite impress as much. If we had come to Montevideo first we probably would have had a better impression of it, but unfortunately it doesn't compare to Buenos!
We've spent the past four days walking around the city and generally taking in the sights whilst at the same time trying to spend as little money as possible! We've done pretty well in that sense. We checked out the old town which is the historical centre and is definately the place to be in Montevideo, it has a lot more about it than the more modern centre! Probably the highlight of Montevideo was visiting the stadium that was constructed for the 1st Fifa World Cup in 1930, a cup that Uruguay won to become the first World Champions after beating Argentina 4 - 2. We had tour of the ground including the pitch and the changing rooms, we saw a comemorative movie and visited the museum where they have loads of cool stuff like two replicas of the Jules Reme cup that they won plus signed t-shirts by Pele and Maradonna etc, it was pretty cool.
Today we're just hanging around waiting for another 12 hour bus journey to Porto Alegre where we are going to stay with me old mucka Raymondo, looking forward to seeing my old roommate again!Â
