Wills and James Road Trip
Day Sixteen 30.03.05
William had a really bright idea this morning to hire bikes and explore the area. The weather was a bit overcast and James protested that it looked as though it might rain. If it did rain, James warned, he may get a little irritated and not very happy. Shortly after and we had picked up the bike and on a recommendation from the nice man headed for La Teste de Buch, a town about 8kms away.
James conceded that it was actually a good idea, we were going down hill at the time and hadn't seen the other up hills. We arrived at the town but were not sure we had as there was no centre and it was not very attractive. We couldn't really understand why he had sent us here. We also realised we needed to buy something for dinner , so we bought a nice piece of salmon with the salad trimmings . We also bought the times and OK magazine . The journey back was arduous and we needed two cans of beer before another bright idea to visit the dune.
The dune was amazing due to its height and the view we got at the top of this very high sand castle, we need to find out more about it because it seems manmade. When we got to the top we could see sand islands and the "Bassin D'Arcachon. We were going to try and see if we could get to camp site and slide down the dune , but we decided to turn back and run down the dune which easier said than done. We got back on the bikes and our bums was bloody sore due to the very hard saddles.
We got dinner ready and met a nice couple from Leeds, They had travelled up from Barcelona today, it took the seven hours even with the city centre traffic. They were not travelling as we first thought but on a week holiday in their Mazda Bongo, we had a look at this type of van but they are a bit small and don't have any kitchen etc.
We've not met many people yet as it is very quiet and the only other campers are German and French which makes conversation difficult.
