Kuala Lumpur, the Capital of Malaysia! I did not know what to expect from this city. Moving from the Cameron Highlands picking tea leaves and swimming in waterfalls was quite a difference from eating Burgers in the Hard Rock cafe watching the Bahrain Grand Prix Live on a huge projector screen with a Corona beer! Very expensive but worth it! That was later on in evening. When we first got there about mid day, the first place Sophie took us was the Famous Times Square mall. We got a fix of Mickey D's before we went exploring the unbelievably enormous centre. The worlds largest indoor roller coaster fits easily into this mall, along with other rides making a great theme park all indoors. The first thing we did was buy a ticket for this theme park which worked out about 3.00GBP for an all day pass allowing us to go on every ride as much as we wanted. This roller coaster was awesome! The track pretty much went anywhere there was a space in the mall, going right past peoples heads at Mcdonalds and shops on all 13 floors, with double loop the loops, spins upside down and all sorts. The other rides we went on included Ripsaw like ride, right over the top pirate ship, bumper cars whizzy cars thing and other rides too. I totally wish I hadn't had that Extra hot chocolate fudge sunday sauce on top of my Oreo Mcflurry a few mins ago! Was good tho!
Later is when we went to hard rock. Others went out clubbing that night and getting drunk including Dave my room mate, but I didnt fancy it and got some sleep. The next day Dave was hung over and I slept in anyway. We got up about twelve and did some sight seeing by foot. We saw all of the top sight seeing things in K.L. and walked the whole city apart from a quick taxi to the nearest shopping place to get shelter from the monsoon like thunder and rain storm. It completely dried up within an hour and we carried on. By the time we had finshed our walk and got back to Hotel it had gone 6 o'clock, which meant we had been walking for 6 hours. It was great tho because although we saw the same as everyone else, we also saw a hell of alot more by walking in areas no tourist had probably ever been before. So past the shiny skyscrapers that make this city so beuatiful, there was a huge wall blocking a sunken lower part of K.L. which is where me and Dave saw the real city life. Very poor old houses as I had seen before in Malaysia and Thailand, housing the people of K.L. that no one wanted to see. They still had old cars and t.vs etc but the place was certainly not pleasing on the eye to tourists. Which is why it is hidden past a 2 mile wall which is certainly not easy to find without a car.
We then had a meal in china town that evening followed by a visit to the famous night market. I was looking forward to the market as I was told it was a must-do in Kuala Lumpur. When I got there I was bombarded with locals forcing me to look at their stalls and pulled away by the next one saying they give me a better price. It was so claustrophobic and real invasion of personal space being touched and pulled around like a ragdoll. I was there no longer than 5 mins. I would never recommend anyone to go there.
The next day the only thing left to see and do before we left at 12.00, was to get up early at 8 and get in queue for a free ticket to go to the top of the Petronas twin towers which are now the tallest in the world. It was so popular to do this (free tickets) that they would often run out of tickets in a few mins. We jumped in the queue and hoped we were early enough. But then of course after half an hour of waiting we got a ticket for a later time of 11.45 instead of the 10.45 we needed in order to catch the bus to Melaka at 12. The others kept their tickets for scrapbooks etc But I said I would go and give my ticket to someone in the queue so that someone gets the place instead of wasting a ticket. Dan the geordy and Marianne agreed it was a nice idea. So I gave it to someone who had been in the queue for ages and he was very greatful, the others did the same. A ticket lady then asked if there was a problem, we explained what we were doing and before we knew it we had passes to go immediately to the top and by pass the others in the queue. The 3 of us were so excited and realised how lucky we were. Marianne kept saying that I had good karma for giving away our tickets and that is why we had good luck, I loved this idea and it made me feel good about doing the right thing. So we took pics and it was amazing up there. Could see the whole world.
We then told the unlucky others that kept their tickets in the next door shopping mall. We had a coffee and a nose around the mall and rushed back to hotel to get bags on the bus to leave for Melaka.
Melaka coming soon.
