The Picture does not unfortunately match the actual location of Penang, but it is from malaysia so its the closest pic I have.
In Penang the weather was very humid and clammy like any other big city in asia, but it was also raining at the same time which was a strange experience! It was nearly dinner time when we arrived so aftersettling intomy own luxurioussingle room again for 10 minutes, we went for my all time favourite food back home which I was beginning to miss- CURRY!!! It was very nice but they seem to have a different style of Indian food out here, for instance if u order a chicken curry with rice, you will get yourrice and then chicken on the bone still with sauce on top. So I had to be careful not to swallow any bones!
We then wanted a really good night out clubbing and partying because it was a while ago before we had done this and the first proper city opportunity to find a good lively bar! So we were shown by our tour leader Sophie where shethought the best club was in town (only 5 minutes walk), it was ladies night so the girls all got free drinks every half hour or something like that. But the problem was the bar was absolutely empty, and freezing cold from incredibly strong air con. Most left after about an hour or so coz the place was boring, but it was playing quite good R&B and hip hop music. Anyway all of a sudden there were some more people there, then more and more until the place was so crammed u couldnt move let alone get a drink from the bar! It was pumpin, with a great buzz and cool DJ. The next big event of the evening was when the music stopped and the Dj got up on this circular centre stage and started calling girlswho thought they were sexy up on stage til he had four. 2 of them of course were our girls! Liz was first then Alex. Without any idea what they wereletting themselves in for at the time, the DJ made Liz enter the centre stage and told her to dance sexy for everyone, she looked worried. But in true Liz style she went for it with loads of confidence and made her sexy dance hilarious by pulling some random Malaysian man away from his G/F and started dancing around him, it was one of the funniest things I have seen in my life! The crowd of easily 400 local Malaysians were going nuts and the roars and screams from the packed club seemed as loud as a footballmatch! Then Alex got on stage next and pulled up Kimberly from our group claiming they were lesbians and danced together for the crowd (they arent lesbians!) Again hilarious, and some great pictures and video footage to show the rest of the group what they missed in the morning. Unfortunately Liz and Alex both lost the competiton to a real seedy slutty local poledancer who poured a jug of water down herself and showed all!
Our first and only free day in Penang was spent doing pretty much the only thing there was to do in Penang, which was to go the top of the famous Penang Hill and ride theBritish builtRailcar up to it. Once at the top we decided to walk it down the Hill for the 4 or so miles to the botanical gardens at the bottom. As we began to walk it started to rain very very hard, we were all wearing shorts and t-shirts because at the bottom of the hill in Penang it was swealtering hot with sunshine. It was actually very refreshing after such heat. It became very apparent half way down the hill just how steep and long this walk was. It stopped raining and became boiling hot again. On the way down we saw some wild monkeys all around this area on the road we were walking down, they were soo cute, especially the baby ones. We were told not to feed them as they can get aggresive. So we stood taking pictures for a while and they got a bit aggitated, then they really got funny with us and started looking like they were ready to attack. One did actually run towards us making scary noises so we just ran away as they may have been infected with rabies or something else. We eventually got to the bottom of the hill with leg and bummusselsfeeling very strained from downhill walking. The botanical gardens were not much to see so we got a taxi home.
Later on afterpizza hut deliverymy friends and I saw a pack of Uno Cards In our favourite ever mini store which are absolutely everywhere in south east asia, 7 Eleven- Legendary store for all your needs! So as well as getting excited everytime we saw a 7 Eleven store, we also began something here in Penang that would snowball into obsessive hours of playing Uno until crazy hours into the morning! We played afew greatgames, but nothing compared to how addicted we got to the game in say Cameron Highlands onwards( past tense still very late blog entry like a week ago)!
That same night we had to pack yet again after only one day! This was really annoying having to pack again so quickly. We then left the next morning by public bus to the Cameron Highlands.
Cameron Highlands coming soon!
