Melaka was our final stop in the unexpectedly awesome Malaysia. As a group we were all hoping to hit the beach in Melaka to top up the Sunburn from Krabi, as we were told it was on the coast and there was a beach. But no such luck when we got there it was on the coast but no beaches! It was all rocky and boaty but no sand anywhere. There goes that idea. The accommodation was really cool once again and maybe my favourite so far. The main reason being that there was a really nice Bamboo hut restaurant/cafe/bar attached to the front and it was so cool to just chill there with a fresh fruit juice and talk to one of my friends.
However this all came later, the second I got there I needed to sort out my laundry. It was so bad because the last time I had done any was on the first day of Krabi, and I have done alot since Krabi! The percentage of dirty clothes to clean in my bag was probably 80% - 20% clean. So I checked out the price list at the Hostel for their laundry services. To my horror it was price per item, t-shirt was like 8 riingit, jeans were 10etc. I thought that was a right rip off! So I used my head and asked one of the bar people where locals would go to get their laundry done cheap. The Bar lady named Nani was so helpful and nice. She agreed that the Hotel prices were expensive and before even trying to explain to Dave and I where we had to walk to get to this laundry place she had fired up her Fiat Cinquicento and told us jump in . I was so greatful, she even showed us where we had to walk to find a great club/bar later on with the rest of the group. When we got to the laundry they weighed my bag which came to 13.5kg, yeah alot! And quoted me only 8 riingit for the lot! Incredible. Nani said she would even take me back tomorrow on her day off to collect it and she did! Such a great lady.
The rest of the day Dave and I went for a walk to try and find this club again so we knew where to walk to show the group later. I knew it was probably quite a long walk because of the car ride. It was a good opportunity to check out the local town by foot again to really get a feel for it. We found a huge Supermarket and bought some bargain Tiger beers for later. We found the club eventually like an hour later coz we took our time looking around the town. It was then dinner time by the time we got back.
After dinner at the Bamboo restaurant which was great, we headed to the club. Everyone was moaning how long the walk was but I assured them it was worth it. On the way someone spotted a club called Spazzos. Because of the novelty of the name we had to check it out. It was called Spazzos for a reason! The club itself was cool, good music, modern decor, big dance area, but empty. It took half an hour for me to order a drink. Before 10 this jug of beer was on offer so I ordered it for everyone to share. This Spazzo barman was so bad at English and so stupid that it had gone 10 o'clock before he understood what I wanted. He then said because it had gone 10 he couldn't do the deal. I was so P'd off I didn't order any drink. Then I was told 4 of us should do Tequila together so I was up for that. To cut a long story short they didn't have enough tequila. When we demanded money back (very angry by this point) they decided no one spoke English. The manager refused refund and only offerered vodka instead. We were so angry we downed the vodka and left.
That wasn't going to spoil our night tho, we still had this other club to look forward to. There was a live band playing all sorts of music, popular music, new, old, rock. They were very good. After a few beers the party was rockin. I was the first to get up on this roundabout like mini stage and did some silly dancing for the group, I was soon joined by them and a load of other people in the club. We danced for hours it seemed having great fun to both the band and the D.J. filled in wen the band had a break. Billy Jean then came on and I did my thang on the mini stage. The whole club were amazed and cheering and the group hadn't really seen me dance yet! By the end i got huge applause and some random Chinese guy bought me a beer! I was well chuffed. We finished this awesome night off by jumping fully clothed into this private swimming pool right outside the club with everyone looking out of windows to watch us messing about. I was waiting for the club manager to come and tell us off and to get out, but instead he made sure someone was watching our stuff-watches, wallets etc, and said have fun! We then dried off a bit and went back in the club for one more dance. This was definately the highlight so far, it was incredible fun and I will never forget it.
The next day we spent on the rooftop in the free jacuzzi getting some sun until it started raining. Then I just chilled on internet, picked up laundry, and had a nose round town again and went out for dinner with the group round the corner for some nice spicy Malay food. We left early next day for Singapore!
Singapore coming soon.
