After being disappointed with the lack of wildlife seen it turns out all we needed to do was head to the buffet breakfast. Monkeys everywhere! It's quite funny that part of the reason you stay here is to see wildlife and the waiters have to chase them off. Completely understandable as I recon they would become major pests and be a real problem if not around the food. Very cute though and they are determined.
Headed off to the kollective kraf, the major Malaysian craft place for hopefully some souvenir buying. No luck, but then we really aren't big souvenir people anyway.
The glass blowing demonstration was fantastic though. I can't believe how quick he was at making them and it was cool to work out how they get the colour inside the glass.
A quick walk around the craft hall and it was then we realised they had a couple of museums as well. Firstly a wedding tradition one (no photos allowed) and it was a little disappointing that it focused a lot more on the Chinese and Indian traditions than the local Malaysian. I guess that's the multi-culture aspect of society these days.
Then onto the traditional Malaysian culture museum. This was was quite fascinating. I have seen them before in Borneo but there is a traditional game made out of wood where they inlay I think 9 holes and 2 more on the ends. I have yet to work out how it is played but if I could get one of the really large intricate carved wood boards back home I would. They are truly stunning. Phil was taken by the woodcarving. So intricate and almost seems a lost art in Australia.
A wander around the craft halls and the batik painting were stunning but really not our style unfortunately.
We decided to head back to the Oriental Village (literally a couple minutes walk from Berjaya) for lunch and to check out the cable car. We have decided to do the cable car in the morning as it's not supposed to rain so should get better views. Lunch at the Oriental Cafe, which glad to report was much better than the last experience in the food court there.
Found a great little playground for Amelia, we so need to buy her a slide! We did see some of the biggest black flying beetles I have ever seen. Phil noticed them first and thought they were huge bumblebees (completely understandable due to the noise they made) and I'll have to try and get a photo tomorrow of them.
Back for a relax at the resort and then back down for tea at Mizumi Japanese restaurant. Yum is how to describe it. Tuna and salmon sushi, crumbed chicken with a truly awesome dipping sauce and tempura prawns. Definitely glad we decided to give it a go. The waiters were lovely (although we were the only guests at that stage :) ). At a little over $40aus including two beers was great value, especially considering what it would have cost in Australia.
All in all a pretty great day and our munchkin is certainly surprising us still with her resilience. I think our travels will certainly be interesting from now on. She is such a magnet to people. I suspect it's the cheeky grin and blonde hair but she certainly opens up the conversations.
Can't believe it is our last night here. Has gone so quick. Better get back to the beers on our deck. . . Can hear the monkeys but can't see them . . Yet . .
