Well after an early morning wake up call (not sure what countries time she's working on, thanks Amelia) we decided we may as well head into the main area of Pantai Cenang for breakfast at the English Tea House. Turns out the opening times were wrong yet again so after a coffee at Maccas (and a nap for Amelia!) we headed across the road for breakfast.
I must admit Maccas is a really interesting measuring stick as far as different countries go. Phil didn't want to give the Durian McFlurry a go. Can't imagine why . . . for those of you who have never tried it, it is an 'acquired' taste and smells like 'vomit' (Phil's word). I don't hate it but Phil won't go near it. Funny to how it's actually banned from pretty much every hotel too considering how it is loved over here!
After a breakfast of pancakes - Phil always recons there isn't enough maple syrup and he was right- but they were good, we decided to check out underwater world since Amelia had already had a nap.
I think opening hours in Langkawi are pretty much 'around' the specified time on the door :)
$30 ringgit per adult to get in and Amelia was free.
Underwater World was actually quite good although I suspect Phil and I enjoyed it more. If the fish, seals or birds moved Amelia was interested but that was about it.
Found a leopard gecko, which I had never heard of, and since it's like my two favourite animals combined I think Phil should have to buy me at least one ;). Lots of lizards and geckos and more surprising an amazon exhibit. Bought back a lot of memories of our trip to Peru, especially the blue Macaw and piranhas.
Even saw these bizarre fluorescent fish which apparently secrete this kind of substance which they then use to feed their young. Still can't believe how fluorescent they were. You would think in the wild they would just eaten as they stood out so much.
I did get to find out my answer to the question whether Muslim women lift their veil for photos and it turns out they do. Must admit it would be pretty wierd if they didn't. I think I may have been lucky to work this out as the centre was fairly quiet as far as tourists go. I suspect if they were busy it may have been different.
After a good walk through and some quick shopping it was back to the resort. Our taxi driver was great. We even found out that the name Amelia in Malaysia is highly regarded. They even have a song, Amelia Contessa, which we will have to find.
He even stopped on the way so Amelia could see the buffalo, which roam freely on the sides of the road, up close. I think she was pretty impressed. It turns out he was an ex fireman of 25 years who had worked throughout Malaysia and was now retired and working as taxi driver??
So as it was still quite nice we decided to head down to the boat shed bar for lunch. Wow does the weather change quickly here. One minute we were sitting on the sand and the next the storm hit. Hilarious watching everyone run for cover, even those in the water!
Phil got chatting to a lovely man from the Middle East, Omar, who is planning to try to immigrate to Australia. Apparently here is like paradise, his comment was, home is a desert, I've never seen rain like this.
After a break in the rain is was a quick trip back to the chalet and a nap for everyone!
Happy Hour at five (somewhat amusing as the resort is full of Muslims who don't drink) although as usual Amelia found some other little people to look at. It's so funny how they do that. I truly am in awe of our little munchkin and how incredibly adaptable she is. Probably good for us as she is travelling so incredibly well. Bodes well for the future :)
Tea at the Dayang Cafe again (probably should check the buffet price before we got a bit of a shock at the end! Although it was tasty) and now with Amelia sound asleep we are sitting yet again on the deck, with only a light shower, which is really rather nice.
