Our trip is over!!!
We left Hervey Bay with Laura and James and Angela and Mal, people we met whilst on Fraser Island and headed North. We stopped at Bunderburg for the night. We went to see the turtles in the evening, we had to wait all evening for either the mother turtle to come and lay her eggs or the hatchlings to hatch and make their way to the water. At 11.00 we were called to go to the beach were we saw Flat Backed Turtles realesed and make their way to the ocean. Steve got to hold one of the torches and guide them to the water and they were running over his feet.
Heading North, we stopped at Agnes Water and 1770 but didn't stay as there was not much there. We carried on past Gladstone and stopped at Rockhampton. When we arrived we noticed fluid around our front wheel and thought the brake fluid was leaking. Spent the next day taking the car to the garage to be fixed. Unfortunately the oil leak has got worse and had covered the brakes in oil and damaged them all, so we had to have all the brakes changes and the wheel bearing. Great!!!
On Wednesday we visited the Capricorn Caves, We went on a hour tour walking round, there was a Cathedral inside the caves where people got married, despite the floor being made up of at least 20 metres of bat poo. They were impressive but we wimped out of the Adventure tour, squeezing through narrow tunnels, far to energetic.
We spent the next two days driving to Mackay and relaxing by the pool, after driving in a hot car for 4 hours you need to go swimming. Its getting hotter and more sweaty the further North we go.
On Friday we spent the day at Engulla National Park. We drove around stopping at a dam and then at a gorge, where we walked two kms through the rainforest to a water hole. Where we went swimming, the water was really cold and refreshing. Steve enjoyed climbing the rocks and jumping in even though you are not allowed. He also decided to climb up the waterfall which he slipped down.
On Saturday we drove to Airlie Beach. It is really nice here, the sea is so blue and the weather glorious. There isnt a beach here but a man made lagoon which is just as nice. We have spent the last few days relaxing around there and sorting out our travel plans for the next few months.
We checked in for our Whitsunday cruise this afternoon and are sailing on Wednesday for 2 nights and 2 days on a catamarang. We have to hire stinger suits because you arent allowed in the sea without as there in Stingers in the water. Deadly jelly fish. So I will definately not be going in the sea at all. Steve wants to go diving. We will let you know how we get on when we get back.
