Our trip is over!!!
For the last three and a half days we have been on a tour around Ulura, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon. We set off Monday morning bright and early, 6.30. We stopped first at a place we cant remeber the name off, we were supposed to stop at Rainbow Valley but it was closed. We stopped at a roadhouse where Dinky the singing Dingo lived and I had to play the piano whilst the dingo sat on the keys and sang along, Very Funny. We went digging for witcherdy grubs which we cooked and some people ate. We didint. We then drove onto Kings Creek Station where we relaxed by the pool as it was very hot.We set up camp and our swags. Had dinner and sat around the camp fire.
On Tuesday we had to get upa at 5.00 and drive to Kings Canyon where we could see sunrise. We had to walk to the top of the canyon and then around the top to the Garden of Eden. The walk was 3 hours long and quite hard work. It was amazing lying at the edge and looking down. We then had lunch and set off to Ulura. We went to set up camp and then went for a walk around part of Ulura. We saw where the women cooked the meals, the children learnt how to become warriors and where the women would have the babies. These were all in different caves around the bottom of the rock. We then drove to view the sunset, which was beautiful, watcing Ulura change colour with the sun. We went back to camp and had dinner and sat around the camp fire playing games.
On Wednesday another 5.00 start after a good night sleep in the swags, they are very comfy. We went to Ulura and started walking around the base whilst the sun was coming up. The walk around the base is 9KM and you can see all the shapes and different colours on the rock. We decided to walk around the bottom and not up the rock, the aboriginies ask you not to as it is sacrid and against their laws, also we thought we would see more of the rock. We then set off for Kata Tjuta where we did another 6 KM walk up to the valley of winds. We had to pass a certain part of the walk by 11.00 as they shut it if the temperature is hotter than 37 degrees and it was. Lovely walk and the views were amazing, well worth the effort in the heat and the blisters on the feet.
We had to get up at 5.00 again this morning to set off and return to Alice Springs for 12.00. This was an amazing trip and we thoroughly enjoyed it. our tour guide was excellent and his family opened Kings Canyon to tourist so was very knowledgable.
