Our trip is over!!!
We left Darwin on 24 March to travel to Alice Springs on a three and a half day tour. On the first day we visited Litchfield National Park. We went to Wangi Falls, where we walked to the top of the falls, looking out for spiders on the way. Unfortunately you couldnt swim here as the water was to high because it was the wet season. We then went to Tolmer Falls which you view from a lookout and then Florence Falls. We walked to the bottom of the falls and went swimming, unfortunately there was lots of fish in there and they would swim right up to you and touch you, YUK! We then went to Buley Rock Hole where you can swim. This is a series of small waterfalls which you can sit in. I fell over here, slipped on the rocks and landed in a bush. I hurt my hand, grazed my arm and got a bruise on my bum, luckily not many people saw. We also saw some huge termite mounds. We camped at a roadhouse.
On the second day we had to get up early 7.00 and went to Katherine Gorge. Here we walked up some steep little steps in the cliff to a lookout where you could see the river and all the scenery around. It was ok here but nothing special, the water was brown. It was so hot. We then went to Katherine but everything was shut because it was Good Friday. Here we had BBQ for lunch. Then onto Mataranka Hot Springs. This was like a swimming pool in the middle of a palm tree forest. We then went to Daly Waters Pub, where a Bachelor and Spinster Ball was being held over the weekend. There was live country music and lots of australians in Cowboy Hats getting drunk and dancing. Steve made two drunken friends for the night.
On Saturday we had a lot of driving to do and drove for nearly the whole day, we arrived at Devils Marbles for sunset. We camped here for the night at the base of the marbles. We had a camp fire and sat around playing games.
We got up early on Sunday 6.00, so we could watch sunrise over the marbles, we sat on them and watched, it was lovely. After breakfast we set off for our last stop Alice Springs, we stopped at the Tropic of Capricorn on the way.
