And so onto Liechtenstein which was a day of train and bus travel through the cities of Basel and Zurich with amazing Swiss scenery.
Once again we had to manage tricky changes of trains and a bus along the way to get to our destination.
Liechtenstein is far smaller than even Luxembourg at just 25 klms by 6 klms! The capital Vaduz is really like a Swiss village nestling in a small space of almost flat land at the base of towering mountains.
A very helpful tourist officer gave us a map and bus timetables so that we could travel up the mountains for the day rather than stay in the capital. We were lucky to have fabulous weather and clear skies to appreciate the mountain scenery and had a picnic lunch in a meadow surrounded by snow covered mountains. The ski season will be underway soon and the ski lifts are dotted everywhere in the mountains.
As the cool evening air came in we collected our packs from the hotel we had stayed in and headed for a bus to take us to the train station for an overnight train back to Paris. We had booked a sleeper, but it was a little more crowded than our one in Morocco, with 6 people in 3 tiered bunks. It was still much better than sitting up all night!
