We arrived in Koh Samui at around 6pm after a scary boat journey there! We were staying at a resort in the north of the island so we had to get a taxi to Mae Nam beach from where it was a five minute walk. Our accommodation was really nice, very spacious with a t.v, fridge, air-con and hot shower! We headed to the nearest restaurant for dinner which was the best - we ate some delicious food, with massive portions at reasonably cheap prices! After dinner we retreated to our room pretty tired and looking forward to a day on the beach the next day.
We spent best part of Thursday (NYE) on the beach topping up our tans. Mae Nam was a beautiful beach filled with palm trees and silky white sand, and we were (apart from a handful of other people) almost the only ones on it. That evening we caught a taxi to Chaweng where all the night life was. We had dinner at an English style pub and then headed to Chaweng beach for some drinks. We sat with a couple called Kate and Dylan who were from Dublin and a group of Liverpudlians joined us later on. We spent the few hours before midnight drinking buckets and smoking a strawberry flavoured sheesha! It was a fantastic evening with beautiful fireworks, good company and lots of dancing to see in the new year!
After waking up at around 10am on Friday we headed to Bophut - a cute `fisherman's village` with quirky restaurants and shops lining the beach. We spent the afternoon there before eating again at our favourite restaurant and then watching a film in our room. The following day we headed back to Bophut to book a ferry to Koh Phangan, the party island. We left Koh Samui on Sunday and headed to Koh Phangan.
