Today we walked to Oxford Street, and then along to Paddington Market. There were lots of lovely things to look at, nice paintings, jewellery and clothes. As we are on a budget we didnt buy anything! But it was nice to look around. Next we headed towards the Aussie Football Stadium, and next door was the Cricket ground. Tom went and had a look around the inside of the cricket ground, and was lucky to see a game...apparently with some famous Australian players! Refer to his blog for that!! whilst we sat and relaxed by a lake that was near by. All the preparations for the 'Mardi Gras' were taking place near by. We then headed back to the hostel to get ready for the 'Mardi Gras', as we walked back there were lots of people walking up in there various outfits. A few people in drag, which was funny to see.
That evening we walked down to where the 'Mardi Gras' parade was taking place, it was only a short walk from our hostel! For those of you who dont know the 'Mardi Gras' is a very famous gay and lesbien festival. As we arrived where the parade was, we could not believe the crowds!! It was so busy!! At first we thought we weren't going to see any of the parade...but luckily we managed to squeeze through, and see lots of people in amazing costumes and there was such a lively atmosphere and the crowds were all cheering. There were various companies and charities parading down the street...even the fire service, police etc. Towards the end there was a very interesting group of people in leather! we were quite unlucky to see a lady of age wearing next to nothing, with just a belt crossing her body! we were very shocked!!
We all throughly enjoyed the 'Mardi Gras' as it was something different and we were lucky to be in sydney for it (just by chance) as it is one of sydney's biggest events!
