Up early and headed to the islands of Islas Cies part of the National Park of Atlantic Islands of Galicia. It wasn´t great weather so we spent the day walking from one point of the island to the other, all in all we probably covered about 10km, most of it uphill. The views were well worth the climb and the photos are pretty speccy (being quite unprepared for mist and fog, I wore flip flops planning on a beach day so I´m amazed I made it up there at all), so we duly headed down the hill for lunch. The restaurants were full of tourists scoffing greasy roast chicken and chips and we were desperate for a sarnie but we couldn´t find anything smaller or more basic than what the others had. So we gave in and paid 20 euro for a plate of calamares and chips, only to turn around and find a whole bar full of sandwiches at 2 euros. Needless to say the Scottish lassie in me was steaming out the ears but we sold it to ourselves as a ´nice lunch out´ (it wasn´t really even that but you know what it´s like when you´ve been had.
the boat trip back was entertaining with a full on forest fire and helicopter doing a grand job at scooping up the water and dowsing the flames. Jon, there will always be work for you on the west coast of Spain, apparently this sort of thing happens all the time.
We jumped into Nads (a little grey looking after his shower of ash) and headed for Portugal. I practised my ´sh, sh´accent on the way down....
Everyone sounds like Sean Connery down there, don´t they?
