Laura and Sarah's Travels
Today we booked an afternoon trip to Ao Thalene, Krabi for a tour of the mangrove forest.
Before we departed, Sarah insisted on buying some bananas for the monkeys which were advertised to board the canoes for a treat.
We shared a canoe and thankfully we didn't get seasick this time! The limestone cliffs were surrounding us and the water was quite smelly.
We paddled our way through to a canyon and on the way we were engulfed by about 20 monkeys.
The first monkey to spot the bananas at the front of our boat, swung from the trees and jumped into our boat and snatched the bag, tore it open and dropped many of the bananas into the water.
It was a real treat to see the monkeys peel open the bananas and eat the fruit from inside. At this point about 20 or so were swinging in the trees above us.
Sarah had also brought a bag of peanuts, salted ones were all she could find and one cheeky monkey pinched them from her and munched the lot!
Feeling sorry that the monkeys had no more food, Sarah gave them the rest of my crisps I had in my bag....Charming!
We headed back to base but unfortunately the tide had gone out a lot and sometimes we had to get out of our canoe to drag it across the sandbanks. By the time we were nearly back, the tide had completely gone and we were instructed to abandon the canoes and walk across the stinking mud/sand back to the hut.
To make matters worse, it also had started raining.
We arrived back at our guesthouse, wet, smelly and not looking forward to getting in a cold shower.
We could have murdered a hot bubble bath....well a hot shower at least would have been nice!
Leaving Krabi tomorrow on the 7am bus to Had Yai.
