We set off from Windhoek heading for the Botswana border with 2 new family members on board - Carl and Virginia from Brisbane Australia - They were "thirtysomethings" ..… a new demographic, with unknown drinking habits. The border crossing was uneventful and soon after, at a town called Maun the group split up - The Twomey's and the new couple from Oz were taking a plane into the Okavango delta for 3 days and the rest would remain in Maun until we returne...

The next night was Windhoek, the Namibian capital and we were losing 5 of our family Bep, Oliver (a German guy who had started to get more involved in the last few days) and the Danish Lads -Heather now regarded herself as their Mother. A "Family" night out at Joe's Beer House in town ….. Farewells were said, tears were shed and 7 of us climbed into a single taxi back to our accommodation - 20 kilometres out of town …… the Danish boys stayed in town.

Refreshed by our two days stop, it was back in the truck at a civilised 8:30 am and heading towards the Etosha game reserve. Along the way we visited Spitskop, a mountain that looks like a scaled down version of the Matterhorn and a desert walk that included "bushman" cave drawings. We stayed a night with the Himba tribe, a nomadic group that are dying out because the young people are leaving for the city, aspiring to a western lifestyle and their centuries ...

2 Day stop-over in the German town of Swakopmund where activities like skydiving and quad bikes were on offer…… The Twomey's opted for the Quad bikes and spent a fun couple of hours bashing the dunes. Restaurants and bars came into play and the camping group were also in Swakopmund so the Danish boys deserted us for some young girls from the camping trip - Traitors. Their place was taken by Derrick an Aussie, who on occasion was separating from his 2 teeto...

Dune 45 was a huge dune in the Namib desert that we stopped to climb - exceptional view from the top (some failed to make the summit) the crazier of us descended off the steep sides and came down at an accelerated pace. All this was punctuated by roadside meal stops and evening drinking sessions with the now established team.
