On the move again, heading west towards Java to our last stop in Bali, the Taman Sari Resort and Spa located in Pemuteran and about 1 hour from the ferry terminal. It was a quality resort located on the beach with adjacent pool and bar facilities, we also had a private pool just in front of our terrace, 6 paces from our room (not bad for a couple of backpackers) - No pretence at culture here just a couple of days R&R. Amazingly cheap rates as we were again travelling out of season.
Our first afternoon was filled with beers on the beach and a few games of pool with the locals, along with the obligatory swim in the ocean - we noticed a strange "creature" bobbing along the surface and were reluctant to touch it, until Heather identified it as our room keys, which Dan had (apparently) lost from his pocket whilst swimming.
In the evening we went to the no.1 restaurant in the area for dinner, the meal was excellent and the service incredible, mainly because we were the only diners and the entire waiting staff were grouped around our table, competitively delivering and removing food, plates and cutlery. As it was raining heavily the restaurant provided a car to take us back to our hotel.
Day 2 we hired snorkelling gear and explored the surrounding area from our beach. The sea was the clearest we had seen in Bali and pretty much pollution free - they were conducting an eco-experiment to revitalise the local coral, which was interesting to see. The fish were plentiful, diverse and very colourful, providing our best snorkelling experience, since leaving the UK. Our section of the beach was overhung with tropical trees shady, which served well to protect us from the sun as we idly wiled away the afternoon reading and drinking Bintang (the local beer that we were getting a taste for).
We were up early on our final day as leaving at 8.00am to get to the ferry port of Gilimanuk and our trip across the Bali Strait to Java. It was a fairly easy process and cost us the grand total of £0.30 each as foot passengers to Banyuwangi in Java.

Carol Sounds fab Heather. Btw love the way you write in the third person referring to Dan and Heather
Rachel Another fabulous sunset. I have to say w3 are definitely going to be following in your footsteps as the accommodations you’ve been staying at have all been great. I love the fact that you were playing pool. I’m glad it was only the keys you lost Dan. The whole R&R sounded amazing.
