And so the adventure begins!! I didn't sleep much the night before so that I would sleep on the plane and mission accomplished!! The flight Sydney to Santiago was 12.5hrs and I watched one movie and some episodes of an idiot abroad (to get me even more pumped), the rest was spent sleeping!!
Few hours in Santiago airport then jumped on the next flight to Lima which was another 4hrs. I must've still been tired as I fell asleep when people were still finding their seats and I woke up and I had missed lunch service! Oops!
Coming in over Santiago you can see mountains and it looks stunning, coming into Lima on the other hand I felt like I was arriving into somewhere in the Middle East. Very sandy and not what I expected of Peru at all but after 23hrs of travelling door to door, I was just happy to be here!
I checked into my hotel, freshened up and hit the streets to explore Lima. Lots of bustling traffic and beeping horns, much like an Asian country where they don't know how to use a lane or indicators. The main square is so beautiful (that's the pic attached to this blog). I wandered in and around the shops then a policeman came up to chat to me and told me he knew the best place to have ceviche (perus famous seafood dish) so he gave me directions to the restaurant. Well it was delicious but not what I expected, full of fish, prawns and octopus but its not cooked, just seasoned with lemon and chilli. I ate it anyway...
I was surprised how little tourists I saw on the streets and how little English people speak, I'm so thankful I already know a little bit to help me get by. Makes a huge difference being able to understand a menu and some signs on the streets.
Tomorrow a city tour of Lima.
