I woke up this morning to the sound of duelling car horns. One horn would sound, in retaliation the other horn would blare. Back and forth a dozen times then I think the battle was won by the first one as he must have been pressing it for a minute straight. Needless to say, after that fiasco, I was wide awake.
We visited a flea market close by and a local grocery store. We made our way back to the hostel and prepared a fresh bagette with deli meat and cheese. It was very tasty and filling. That seems to be a staple here - baguette sandwiches. It surprises me that Subway even operates a franchise here.
We decided to walk around and make our way to the Eiffel Tower. On the way, we stopped in at the Gustuve Eiffel Exhibit that highlighted his wonderful structures and creations, one of which is the Eiffel Tower. I enjoyed it but it was an hour wait in the scortching sun. I completed a project on it in grade 13 so it was of particular interest to me.
As we approached the tower, I took various pictures. It was remarkable to see this 120 year old massive iron structure slowly growing as we approached it. Pictures in books and magazines don't depict it's true size. We decided to wait til dusk to take additional pictures of the tower lit up. I'm glad we did as the tower looks like a hot poker coming out of a fire, glowing in the dark. This has definately been the highlight of my trip.
We were both very tired and started to walk toward the metro station. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better than this, it did. The tower lit up like a Christmas tree, with hundreds of twinkling lights going on and off randomly. Again, stunning!
I'm in bed hoping my blistered feet can handle more walking torture tomorrow. I have nothing planned yet, so maybe a day at the Louvre. We will see!
Stay tuned!!
