I finished off the day in London with a visit to The Natural History Museum with my friend and his friend who lives here. Yet again, I was amazed at the size of this building. It's exterior was graced with several stone sculptures of animals of all kinds. The line up was of about 300 people waiting for the doors to open. We did not go in until about 10:30 and there was a steady stream of people even after we lines up.
Inside we found so many amazing displays on animals that roamed the earth long before we were here. There are too many to mention, but my favourite was the giant armadillo. It was a little smaller than a cow. Can you imagine? The world has seen many many changes over thousands of years. I feel honoured to have learned about some of these discoveries.
We made our way to Heathrow Airport via The Tube and waited for our Air France flight to Paris. We boarded the plane by 4:00 and ended up waiting on the runway for 40 minutes. They served a light snack and drink if our choice. The captian apologized for the delay but it was due to the back up of planes on the runway. When we finally took off, it was not long before we arrived in Paris. It seemed at the most another 45 minutes.
This airport experience was one of the best I've ever has, in terms of speed. By the time we went through immigration and customs and walked to the baggage carousel, our bags were there waiting to be picked up. It was unbelievable!! The train from Charles de Gaulle Airport was quick and the ride was entertaining. An accordion player gave us a mini performance. Obviously he was looking for a donation which my friend kindly gave.
We arrived at the Gare Du Nord Station and made our way to the hostel located only a couple of blocks away. It was a maze to get out but we made it. When we crossed the street we did not notice how amazing the main train station was. One side was going through major resurfacing or cleaning and the other side was complete. I was in awe. It was incredible. I hope to post the pictures for your enjoyment.
We were also impressed with the hostel. Clean room, only 3 beds and an ensuite bathroom! Breakfast included in the morning and free wi-fi. WOW! I would come here again!
We walked around and felt very hungry so went to a small Vietnamese restaurant. It was around 9 pm. We figures the French eat late so why not have a late dinner. The young lady seated us but quickly returned after consulting the staff in the kitchen. I had a hard time understanding her accent but I believe she was asking us to leave. I just told her we were hungry and we would be quick. She grumbled and returned to the kitchen like an angry child not getting her way. We heard some loud grunts and moans coming from the kitchen, maybe even a few dishes breaking. She returned and we gave her our order. The meal came quickly and we ate it with our chopsticks, which was a challenge for me! It was the best vietnemese food I have ever had. Impressive! We left and headed back to call it a night.
Vive le Paris!!
