So we knew it was going to happen sooner or later and we probably really didnt want it to happen here but we got sick! Tummy bugs and colds hit us and it over shadowed our stay in BA slightly. Lets just say we didnt really experience the infamous nightlife it had to offer!
However on the days when we are feeling better we managed to visit the Evita Balcony, grave and Museum, see the stadium in La Boca, watched street tango in colourful Caminito, visit the Recolleta cemetary (where all the rich/famous are buried in all their honour!), sample the delights of the bustling San Telmo antiques fair and shop till we dropped in Florida Avenue and the surrounding shopping arcades. We also managed to see the new Batman film in English at the cinema which was brilliant, ableit late, the Argentinian movies start on time dont you know!
The highlight of the trip here was Cafe Tortoni! Quite simply amazing! It was a beautiful old style cafe which had been running for 150 odd years, it felt like an everybodies Ritz and was every bit as grand but just not as pricey - bargain! We went twice, once to enjoy a bottle of San Telmo Vino Tinto and cheese board and the next to witness a Tango show in all its grandure. It didnt fail to disappoint and was a fabulous evening out both times!
Buenos Aires is a great city, we certaintly felt much safer here, and the streets are lined with coffee shops, restaurants and fabulous designer shops (there was an amazing arcade full of designer stores, very plush and totally gorgeous!). But generally its really old school and retro with lovely colonial building scattered everywhere! Just what we like!
