Wednesday was the first of our 'big' ride days. We pedalled 100-km's through the mountains from Da Lat to Nha Trang with 3 climbs over 20-km's to test our mettle. This was Jane's first ride over 50-km's and she pedalled faster than Mickey in a mouse wheel
Our day began at 5:30am with a cup of coffee and a healthy serving of breakfast. The weather was warm and the skies were clear as we headed up the slopes for the start of our adventure. Half an hour into the mountains, we were greeted by grey skies, continuous rain and a 15 degree drop in temperature. Boy did that change the mood! 30 minutes after that, the first stop saw riders scrambling for ponchos and windscreen wipers to clear the mud from their glasses.
Section 2 of the ride provided more rain and more mud but saw us finish atop the mountain for a 20-km descent that had riders grinning from ear to ear. Jane found her rhythm with speeds of more than 50-km's an hour and joy at overtaking me around some of the bends. It seems that Mad Dog is pretty handy on a deadly treadlie when she puts her mind to it.
