I forgot to mention in Maribor our apartment had a musical shower! Not only did it have the usual shower head but it also had an amazon rain forest option and those horizontal jets that normally cause Donna to rip the door off plus it had built in speakers and radio, Donna was washing and singing along to the local rock station! Slovenia and Austria have been beautiful but we knew they would we have been to both before. Austria also gives huge helpings of food in restaurants, even too much for starving cyclists. Today we have had just a short ride but our biggest hurdle yet, almost 600 metres of climbing in just 9km. Before starting the climb we came across a huge metal Harley Davidson sculpture (look for Donna in the picture to get the scale), George we were tearing along at the time but we stopped to get the photo for you, a Yamaha would have been preferable I know. On the climb Donna said we are in too high a gear, we were in bottom! The sign said 18% for 3km, fortunately it wasn't otherwise we wouldnt have been able to keep pedalling, then round a hairpin Donna caught sight of the road before me and the air was blue. The 18% started and we had to get off. So the 2 foot gear kicked in as we pushed Titty up 12 paces at a time. There were a few annoyed motorists who met us at the same time as descending vehicles who didn't or couldn't stop. Skidding tyres, burning clutches galore!! We got back on and back off and eventually reached to top of the Wurzen pass. Donna said it was one of those rip your eye balls out and throw yourself over the barrier experiences, I thought it was great. So a ripper of a descent using all 4 of our brakes going back into Slovenia. Next stop Kranjska Gora to stretch our legs in the mountains for 5 days. Some facts and figures for you, 76 days on tour, 51 days pedalling, 10 countries, 2340 miles, 112, 000 feet of ascent. A big thankyou for all the feedback on the blog, don't know when I'm typing if if there is too much or it's too mundane so we are both glad that we are keeping you entertained. More to follow!
