Upon arrival in Santa Maria we could tell it was going to be hot, despite being the evening when we arrived you could feel the heat. We got a taxi through town to our hostel and had a few beers at the bar before chilling on the rooftop and passing out to enjoy a very deep and long sleep.

Next morning we extended the sleep with a lie in, but once awakened we went for a stroll through town to the beach and along the waterfront. We also went to the busier streets in town and Luke bought a pair of shoes as at this point he had nothing but flip flops. We took in the cathedral and tried to find some tour agencies to shop around for the Lost City Trek, we had no luck though. Instead we went shopping for some essentials and found a menu del dia place for food. We drank at the hostel that evening and stayed up later than we intended on the roof terrace.

Next morning we woke up a little later than we had hoped and our tour guide for the Lost City Trek had to come into our room to find us. We wolfed down some hangover breakfast, packed our bags and emptied our bowels whilst everyone waited so we weren´t off to the best of starts. However, when we got to the office across town we were still waiting for one more person so that eased the guilt somewhat. After that it was time to set off on a 5 day jungle trek to the Lost City.
