Having been caught up at the border for 20 minutes because they thought my passport was a fake we managed to catch a bus to Cali. This bus journey was meant to be the most dangerous one of the trip and fortunately it passed without incident. Mathilde and I chatted rubbish all day and rocked up in Cali around midnight on a Sunday night. Having been on a bus all day we were keen to get out and about despite the time so had a quick shower and took a cab to anywhere where there was a party still.
We ended up on a strip the other side of town and headed inside for a drink. Cali is meant to be the Salsa capital of south america and I can see why. The dancing was incredible! Everyone seemed like a professional and had the most casual facial expressions ever. I didn´t dare get even close to the dance floor because I think I would have been kicked out before I could perform my first leg kick!
Instead we ordered a couple more beers and just oggled the night away. The next morning we went for breakfast in the street and were joined by a bird that through into the window above us. Sadly, it crashed to the deck had a fit and died next to us making it a strange start to the day. Soon after we went for a brief stroll through the neighbourhood before getting a taxi to the zoo which is meant to be the best in Colombia.
Inside they had all sorts of animals from all over South America, and a few from further afield such as a lion that loved roaring and was very impressive. There was an almighty tropical rainstorm though for an hour which ensured every visiter got completely soaked. Once we had filled our memory cards with animal snaps we visited the old town and had a brief look around. After we went to the archaelogical museum and absorbed some cultural information.
In the evening I got a haircut in the middle of town which was a hustling and bustling centre. We found some cheap food for dinner and then it was time to get another night bus to Medellin further north.
