Toms Intrepid Travels
And now i have reached the top......of Queensland that is!
After the Whitsundays i sadly had to say goodbye to my two buddies Joe and Phil, who'd i'd been with for 6 weeks or so, and also the two girls who i'd been with for a total of four weeks! I was back on my own. But only 3 weeks to go til i returned home.
Back on the Oz bus, we headed towards Cairns, with some stops off at Magnetic Island and Mission Beach. These places were both beautiful spots with gorgeous beaches but not an awful lot else to do!
The best stuff was on the way to Cairns on the last day of the bus. We started at a Croc farm where they had over 3000 crocs, up to 18ft 6 long! The owner Mick, had a nice habit of sitting on the back of the biggest one! Mad. Watched them get fed, which was cool, and then had a little snake and croc handling myself! I'm now accustomed to the Aussie ways. In the afternoon, we stopped off at the Aj Hackett bungy site...50m above the rainforest and a big pond of water! Being the adrenalin junkie i am, of course i did the most extreme one...the roof jump. Climb onto the roof above the platform with it tied around your waist...then just leg it off the top with a big run-up! It was intense!
Once in Cairns though, it was all about the diving. I did a five day Open Water course, with two days in the pool and 3 days living on the boat, and it was such a great experience. Once out on the reef, you become lost in an entirely different world. The variety of fish and coral is incredible. I even snorkelled up alongside this huge green turtle and stroked his shell and just followed him around for a while! How cool is that?! Also did a night dive...which was also pretty intense. I kept thinking to myself that i was 18m below the ocean....in the pitch black! But now i am a certified PADI diver, and can dive all over the world without an instructor!
