Keen to hone my riding skills I joined the morning ride out to see the sunrise and so, aboard the faithful 'Apache', I was among the handful of people to see the sun rise albeit with a smattering of cloud precluding the awesome photograph I had pictured in my mind.
Yet more amazing trekking to be had on this trip, and having had some practice yesterday I think I may even have been in control as we sped along the beach. I should apologise to Apache for getting him in the sea - didn't see the wave coming. Still, he's got long legs and I stayed nice and dry.
On with the day, and we had yet more scenic stops. One took us to see the oldest living pohukatawa (New Zealand Christmas tree), and the day's exercise came in the form of a hill walk up to see the lighthouse at Te Araroa.
On to Te Kaha and the homestay with Te Whanau a Apanui for some rock-hopping and general chill-out. the spa pool overlooking the beach looks especially appealing...
