After a night of people shouting and keeping us awake, we jumped in a tuktuk to take us to Trivandrum airport and head for Udaipur via Mumbai. After being told (usual story for us!) that our bags were too heavy, we did some re-packing which involved giving an airport cleaner Helens jacket. This made her day! We set off for Mumbai where we had a long wait in the domestic airport. With not much to do there we decided on a degustation of the airports food outlets. Eventually we were on board our flight to Udaipur. A taxi reluctantly took us into town where we walked the remainder to avoid a higher fee and set about finding a bed for the night. We wondered around several places in search for a good deal as it was now late in the evening. Eventually we stumbled across a guy who took us to his parents 'guesthouse'. We climbed up a plethora of narrow staircases to finally reach what looked like the rooftop of the typical Udaipur building. His mother showed us our room for the night. The room had amazing views over the lake but lacked air conditioning which proved to be a problem in the 40 degree temperature, even at 9pm. We were tired, hot and hungry so after sitting outside in science, agreeing that we probably should have gone to the backpackers that had aircon (clearly on the wrong page) we headed to bed. We decided to move to the downstairs room where the family wheeled in an enormous, loud and lately ineffective aircon unit. This reduced the temperature in the room from around 40 degrees to 38 degrees. Helen slept most off the night outdoors on the terrace. A hot, horrendous and sleepless night was had!
