We have had a fun packed time in Chiang Mai. After the trek i think we were both ready for action and our first stop was Thai Boxing! Tom's choice of course but i went with it!There were 7 fights in total on the night but it was all a bit bizarre at the start when two 10 year old boys entered the ring! It was a bit wrong to watch but no one got really hurt. There were a few more fights, the guys steadily increasing in age thank god, and then the most bizarre thing hapened! Four men were put into the ring, blindfolded and then p[ushed towards each other to fight! A nifty show for the tourists me thinks! It was quite funny but a little bizzare. I have taken photos and also videos but the computers over here dont seem to register up to date technology when it is plugged in so i havent had the chance to upload them yet!
There were even girls fightiong. A british girl battered a thai girl, who could barely walk once she had finished with her! It only lasted 2 rounds! The big fight was a big aussie bloke against a not so big thai guy. The aussie guy was winning and dominating the thai guy. Some thai man was taking bets for the thai guy to win (note betting is illegal in Thailand!) and so we thought something wierd was going on. The fight ended and they announced the thai guy the winner...he blantanly wasnt! It was such a fix! Hilarious to witness first hand! One Aussie guy in the audience who had placed a bet was absolutely furious...he was completely hammered to be fair!
The next day we hired a scooter- a honda click 100cc to be precise! we spent the day driving around chang mai- went to the bus station to get our ticket t sukhathai- our next destination- and also visited the local shopping cente. we're embarrassed to adimt we did treat ourselves to a cheeky KFC! they serve it on plates here- with cutlery and proper glasses for the drinks- of course we just used our hands! it was good fun on the bike and i hope we do it again soon even if i was scared by toms driving (tom- i was well good!)!! Let me remind those of you who were there n greece...Tom not so good! we even drove out to a restaurant for dinner- it was by the river and really worth it- had a beautiful view and they even had a boat taking diners on a little cruise up the river as they ate!
And now today where we have been doing a thai cookery class at our guesthouse. It has been brilliant- we cooked nine diferent dishes between us including thai soup, red curry, spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken and fried rice! it was well worth it- we even made a spring roll shaped man and decorated the plate with a rose made from tomato- sounds weird but wait until you see the photos! the chef was well funny and kept us laughing all the way through- we cant wait to get home and try out the dishes on all of you!
next stop sukhothai- were getting the bus tomorrow at 10.15!
Be back soon!
