Our bus journey was pretty bad and i dont think either of us got much sleep! It was absolutely freezing and we kind of figured we had come unprepared when we saw all the locals with about 3 blankets each! Everyone we have met has said that Puno is a waste of time but we only stayed here for one night and it really wasnt that bad!
We stayed at the best hostel with the sweetest woman that ran it who made great pancakes for brekkie. She even gave us little kisses hello and goodbye...sweet! After a well deserved kip we went for a walk around the town and headed to the port to get on a boat to see the famous floating islands on Lake Titicaca, an inland sea and what most people call the highest navigable lake in the world at over 3500m high. As we hadn´t booked a rip off gringo tour we were on a local boat which felt much more cultural. After about 2 hours on the slowest boat in the world we got the floating islands. The people that live on them are called the Uros and have lived on them for decades, they orginally strted off living on boats made out of the reeds but then decided to make whole islands out of reeds. We got an explanation of how they lived and saw their houses and stuff but it all felt a bit too set up for tourism so it was a little bit of a let down but still quite unbelievable to see.
Next stop is Copacabana on the shores of lake Titicaca in Bolivia which is apparently a really cool town and a great place to visit other islands on the lake. can´t wait to see what Bolivia is like considering all the stories we´ve heard from other travelers including buses which have lost their front windscreen during a crash and then continued onto its destination! Nice!
Hope you are all well, miss you xxx
