The bus journey to La Paz was a relatively easy one considering the roads. We did have to get off the bus at on point and cross a river on a boat. the bus went on a barge! Strange sight!
La Paz is crazy! People, cars, buses everywhere! The guys were staying at Loki Hostel...renowned for its party atmosphere but as we had already booked our hostel we headed there. Its called Arthy's Guesthouse and its the cutest place. We had a kitchen which came in really handy for cooing dinner and all the DVDs you could want! The only downside was that our room faced the busiest road in the world and Bolivian's have the incessant need to beep every few seconds!
La Paz is a great city. Its over 3000m up and surronded by huge snow capped mountains. Its busy constantly and your never short of anything to do. The amount of people we have met who have ended up staying longer then they intended is amazing, albeit for teh clubs rather than the culture!
We spent a total of 5 days in La Paz. It was nice to settle for a bit especially since we had met some nice people who we hung out with. Tottenham were playing so we headed to Loki bar to meet up with the others as as Tom sat crying at the TV screen we played cards and ended up doing shots as forfeits! Naturally I lost a LOT of games and ended up home before midnight! It was a great night though!
La Paz has lots of great markets throughout the city. We ended up having breakfast on street stalls most mornings, Saltenas, mmmm. Deep fried patties filled with meat and veg! Not the healthiest but they are tasty! We spent a good few days wandering the markets. Tom bought some trainers as his had finally died a long overdue stinky death! I just went from artisan to artisna checking out their woolen goods and ended up buying a leather satchel which is now my pride and joy! We went to the Witches market which sell Llama foetuses which are apparently are good luck if you bury them under your doorstep! I can tell you its quite a shock when you see them just lying on the stalls next to wooly hats!
We could have stayed in La Paz much longer as there was lots to do. We could have done a bike ride on the Death Road which is named so as it has over 100 deaths on it a year! Its a really narrow road that starts at 4000m and drops to sea level in just 64KM! I was too chicken especially as i dont have the best balance in the world!
Our next stop is Sucre. See you then!
