We left Tupiza and Bolivia and were heading for Argentina- a place we had heard so much about and were definitely excited to see. It did however mean another bus jopurney, but we are well used to these by now. We had to take a short bus to a place called Villathon, still on the Bolivian side and then walk about a mile to the border crossing. This was basically a road which had a queue on the side. Wewere in the queue for ages because there was only one guy dealing with all the immigration, but i guess thats South America for you!! We eventually managed to get across, and didnt even have to have our bag searched whihc most people did, and headed to the bus station. We got a bus to Salta and finally arrived quite late in the evening. The bus did have a leak on it though which meant that every time we turned a corner water fell on the seats next to us...
Anyway we arrived safely and got a taxi to our hostel which was ok. We were pretty tired as we had been travelling since 9.00am and so pretty much crashed out for the night. Next day was Good Friday so was a little quiet about town. We did end up moving hostels and then went for a wander around town. Salta was a nice place with alarge plaza where you could sit and have a coffee or food.
In the evening we went and found a parilla restaurant, somewhere which serves MEAT!!! We tried to order a steak each but the waitor looked at us as if we were mad and said we should try and share one- he was right! It came and was about the size of a babys head!!! It was so well cooked as well and was one of the best meals we have had on our travels. We also had some red wine and went to bed very content if a little stuffed!!
Next day we had another wandewr around but Tom wasn´t feeling great and ended up in bed by the afternoon. He spent the night in a sweat and most of the next day in bed as well!! We did manage to get our tickets out of Salta ready for departure, we were planning on going to Cordoba but the buses were all full from Easter so changed our plans to get to Mendoza. By Easter Sunday Tom was feeling better and we took the bus onwards.
Despite the illness we had a good time in Salta and enjoyed the realxing time at the hostel- a good sign for things to come in Argentina!!!!
