Tom and Becky Down Under!
Today we headed to Batemans Bay for a round of mini golf... needless to say Tom won, but only by 6 shots!! i embaressed myself at one point by hitting the ball onto the reception roof, and tom got a bit agitated when he took 5 attempts to get a ball in the hole, which only took me one. Following some fish and chips, we headed south again, taking the George Bass highway along the coast to our rest area for the night.... It was horrible and scary and i got eaten alive!! Tom broke the "Australia" fly swat in his ambitious attempt to kill every fly within a 5 metre radius, so it now doesn't look anything like Australia!! My first attempt at squatting was a failure, much to toms amusement.... It was his fault for denying me the bucket.... anyway, we don't talk about that anymore!!
On Sunday (04/12) We headed through some beautiful countryside to Narooma. It was really pretty around the Wagonaga Inlet and we could see out to Montague Island. We pulled up by a rock in the shape of Australia (Naroomas claim to fame) before heading via mystery bay to Central Tilba, a historic town amoungst beautiful green rolling hills. The predominantly weatherboard village is home to a the Tilba cheese factory (where we bought the best cheese we'd ever tasted), a cute bakery (where they sold the best pies we'd ever tasted) and a few little shops selling all sorts of things from alpaca cardigans to buddhist prayer books!! Although it looked like it depended alot on tourists, it didn't have the bustle usually associated with tourist towns.....
On our way out of Central Tilba, we passed Tilba Tilba, a tiny village whose one shop also served as a petrol station, cafe, general store and post office.
We took the coastal route south over Wallaga Lake and via Camel Rock (photos following soon will explain all) to Bermagui, another cute coastal town on the way to Tathra and our next stop, Bega. Bega, for all the pommies, is the biggest selling brand of Cheese in Australia, and we did the done thing and stopped off at the Cheese Heritage Centre for some cheese, believe it or not. We even got to watch an informational video on the cheese makeing process and, and here is the exciting part, we got to go INTO the cheese factory!! WOW!!
Following our cheese filled morning, we headed through the mountains and across the great dividing range to Cooma on the snowy mountains highway, where we were to spend the night. We stayed at Mt. Gladstone Lookout rest area, about 1km up a steep winding track off the main highway. As well as the amazing panoramic views of the range, we saw the milky way for the first time!! Pretty amazing!!
