This photo was taken from the deck of a little cruise boat during a three hour trip around the east coast of Bruny Island. We saw surprisingly little wildlife but magnificent bull kelp and the biggest blowhole ever! We did visit a colony of fur seals which was very smelly, although I loved seeing them playing in the water. Apparently, the day before the boats had a 5 m killer whale surface practically next to them. Given that the vessels were really little more than comfortable dingies, this had given the crew the willies to say the least. No such luck for us unfortunately.
The boys enjoyed the trip, ned especially. He got to sound the horn to herald the boat's entry to the Southern Ocean - a boys own adventure highlight indeed. Occy was a bit over it and seasick by the end but all in all it was well worth the moolah.
We found surf for Tom as well on the south end of Bruny at a place called Cloudy Bay. This chap got out as we were getting in and we met him later at the Southernmost Pub, where we all decided to eat as it was Schnitty
Night -only $12!
His name was Marty and he had a great chinwag with Tom about WA and surf on the East Coast. We have been employing the insight method of socialisation which dictates that everyone who crosses your path has important information for you - all you have to do is talk to them and suspend judgement. It's working quite well so far.
