Eucla, population about 20 (96 in its heyday of 1888) was a real gem. The township seemed to consist of the roadhouse and caravan park but some enterprising owner had created a oasis out the back of the roadhouse with a wonderful garden and ponds and an extremely tidy swimming pool. I was looking forward to visiting Esperance. I had heard tales of the crystal clear water and was looking forward to surfing see through waves. We pretty much breezed thru the town, stopping only to pick up food and beers from the centre and headed out to Cape Le Grand. We lobbed into a spot at Lucky Bay which was busier than we expected. Right down on the Southern most coast of WA sits the little town of Denmark. It's surprising, actually, just how far down it is. On the map, the coast curves southeast from Augusta through the D'Entrecasteaux National Park while the main road runs inland through an unbroken string of national parks protecting the great forests of Karri and Tingles. The two meet up at the corner as the coast flattens out at Walpole and remain inseparable all the way to Denmark....

After visiting Charlie for the first time in Denmark, the decision was made to drive back to Margaret River via Pemberton to visit the tree top walk amongst the Tingles and to show the kids the Gloucester and the Bicentennial Trees. There is a lot of stuff written about Margaret River. It is one of Australias most prolific wine producing regions as well as an area of outstanding natural beauty and so, naturally, it attracts a lot of attention.
