We arrived at Potato Point in the dark at about 9pm. It is possible that we had been a little ambitious in our aim for our first night. We were greeted by a mob of hundreds of red necked wallabies. They were everywhere and their droppings carpeted the grass. Set up the van in the dark and having par taken of the finest Maccas ulladulla had to offer, we fell in to bed, slightly stunned that we had actually begun our trip.
Awoke the next day 19th of Feb, to a beautiful sun. Tom and I had our first surf of the trip in moderate offshore peaks- Tom caught about 20 waves, I got caught inside...so far,so normal.
Set up the solar array and was happy to see that it did everything it said on the box. Have to say that the fiasco that was our electrics show at Christmas ( battery did not hold charge, had to revert to torches and gas lights), did make us iron out a few glitches in the system before it was too late. We have ended up with 240w panels which should provide more than enough power for our computers and gadgetry. The rest of Sunday we spent at the Bodalla Dairy, the grown ups feasting on a delicious variety of house made cheeses, whilst the ferrets slurped up milkshakes and swung on the hammock chairs in the wonderful covered raised verandah area. Lucky it was covered too as a massive thunderstorm marched through whilst we were there. Good time not to be in camp! Had long walk up the beach back at camp to see the mouth of Tuross River and to burn off some cheese. Saw two impressive eagles up there, either swamp harriers or juvenile sea eagles. Gorgeous birds. Scavenged some dry wood and had our first camp fire after dinner rounded off with dough boys and jam. Yum!
