Tobes on the Go!
Ask yourself who you'd expect to see in a city the size of London when standing on The Strand in front of Charing Cross Tube station? No-one should have been the answer. Well, here I was standing there, madly texting Vicki and Barnes re a camera I wanted to buy, I look up and Nicole is right there. Admittedly, she does work just up the road, but still, it spun us out enough to mention.
Anyway, I was out and about at 8.30 in the morning to see a few things and take photos... namely Trafalgar Square and then I wandered up to Buckingham Palace - hey, ease off, I'm a tourist, what else do you expect me to do?
After the (numerous) photo opportunities, I headed up to Soho - one of the things you lose sight of by travelling on the Tube in London is that a whole heap of things are really pretty close together, and I like to walk anyway.
From Soho, I headed back up to Jessops @ Charing Cross as by this stage I had decided I was going to buy the SLR (single lens reflex) camera I'd seen earlier [it's a Minolta Dynax 5 with 28-80 zoom lens and was cheap even after you convert!].
However, one thing was working against me by this stage - time, or more particularly, lack thereof. Jessops had taken ages... waiting, waiting, its all I seem to do in the UK! and I still had to get back to Clapham North, pack, drop Kirsty's keys off at Euston, then up to Tottenham Hale for the Stansted Express to meet Charlotte and Rob at London-Stansted airport on their return from Croatia. Ok, so I finally got there (by which stage Charlotte and Rob were beginning to think I had decided not to meet them) and we started the drive up to Yorkshire. I didn't know it took four hours to get anywhere in England, well, it does!
When we finally got to East Lutton, near Malton it was about 8.30pm - just enough time to dump the bags and head down to Malton - about 12 miles away - for some Tex-Mex and then onto The Spotted Cow (a great, and tiny pub) for a few pints of Tetley's - must admit I'm getting a taste for it.
