Our new friend (and elected tour guide) Akane Suzuki was in charge of showing Matt and I Osaka's famous nightlife while we were in town. Although it was a weeknight, the city seemed to be as buzzing as Soho on a Saturday. First we went for Takoyaki (octopus and egg fried balls - the local delicacy), bought from a Namba street seller. She then led us to a place that specialised in 'all you can drink in 90 minutes' for under £15. Needless to say we took no persuading (considering we were drinking in a country that burns a hole in your pocket faster that London's West End). There was even a bell on the table that called the nearest waitress, who then appeared out of nowhere to conveniently remove your empty glass and replace it with a new drink of choice. Over-excited and as sugared-up as a five year-old at a birthday party we wanted to try EVERYTHING!!! Ohhh...and we did. Luckily the Japanese like to eat during their giant booze sessions so our deal included a fair few traditional dishes such as okonomiyaki and sashimi slices to munch on while the cassis/beer/sake flowed. Heaven. On the way to the bathroom a tiny Japanese lady toppled into me sideways, thinking I was a wall. That should have been a clue that this evening would end crouched over an electronic toilet bowl. Still...what a night! Osaka we love you!
