Forty Third Stop Seim Reap
We left for Seim Reap on the 8th of July. The distyance from Bangkok to Seim Reap is 450km the journey took 16 and a half hours. In Thailand the bus broke down and we had to change buses, the boarder crossing took 2 hours and the roads from the boarder to Seim Reap are terrible due to an Airline company bribing a Cambodian government official so that the roads don't get repared. We left at 7:30am and arrived at midnight.
During the journey we got friendly with 3 guys; Sam (NZ) and Riz and Paul (London) and spent the rest of our time in Seim Reap together. The first day we got a tuk-tuk round the Temples of Angkor it is really impressive to see these Temples that were built in the 11th century with such detailed carvings in the stone. The highlight was the Cambodian kids, 5-10 year olds everywhere trying to sell you souvenirs. At the end of the day though we were waiting for our tuk-tuk drivers and we spotted a kid playing with a football, We started kicking it about with him and suddenly about 20 kids were standing in a circle hitting the ball to each other and having a laugh. It was good to see that they still could have fun even if they are ruthless salesmen.
The following day we went to the Landmine Museum to see the destruction and the work with land mines that is on going in the country. In complete contrast to that we left there and went to an army barracks where we got to shoot 30 rounds from an AK 47 and get our pictures taken with bazookas.
The next day we left to go to the capital Phnom Penh?
