Forty Forth Stop Phenom Penh
We arrived in Phenom Penh on the 11th of July. We checked in to our hostel, The Floating Island so called because it is built on stilts over Lake Boeng Kak. It is made of wood and bamboo and is really chilled out. I would recommend it apart from the fact on the last night about 1am we could hear a rat scratching between the walls. After we checked in we walked to the Royal Palace but it was too late to get in so we just saw it from the out side and strolled round the city.
On the second day we went to the Killing Fields and S-21 museum. The Killing fields looks like a mine field loads of ditches 2 or 3 feet deep and 10 meters in diameter. There are 86 mass graves in total, most held over 100 bodies. There is a stupa filled with the remains found in the graves which acts as a memorial to the dead. One section is dedicated to 12-15 year old skulls. From there we went to S-21, a prison where they would torture victims. It has now been turned into the Tuol Sleng museum which gives you a clear description of the genocide.
The following day we relaxed and watched "Good Morning Vietnam" in preparation for going to Vietnam and Chau Doc the next day?
