So this is where all the flapping about in preparation ends, and the journey begins... my dad took a photo of me at the airport with all my bags, simply to proove that I can actually carry them all! Saying goodbye to my gorgeous little nephew was the hardest part of this whole experience so far... sitting on the kitchen work top in his dressing gown this morning, he simply had two questions for me... "Aunty Emma...", "yes darling...?" "how will you know what they are saying to you when they speak in African?". And then... "What about if you meet a lion.... will it eat you up?". So sweet, I am going to miss him too much!
The last of the teary goodbyes at the airport, and off to board the plane to Heathrow where I will meet the five other volunteers heading out to Ghana. Butterflies again, so many emotions... I have already eaten half the chocolate that I had bought as rations for when I am in the tiny little village miles away from sweet supplies. Oops! So I went and bought some Haribo instead... let's see how long that lasts!
I had some gorgeous cards from friends that they insiated I opened on the plane which was really sweet. One was full of quotes to helpkeep me sane on this inevitably crazy adventure...my favourite I can't write here, but second favourite is definitely "friends are like bra's...close to your heart and there for support." Thanks Seetal!
