Tams World Tour
HI All
Ok. Am in Bali now but here is what I have been up to since Broome.......
Spent a couple of days in Broome, weather was much warmer which meant that I could just hang out on Cable Beach and catch some rays. Very nice before another lengthy Greyhound trip up to Darwin - 26 hours - harsh.
Arrived Darwin where it was noticeably warmer and checked into my hostel where I was in a sixteen bed dorm! However, hostel had a brilliant pool and I spent the next day sunbathing and listening to the live band they have every sunday.
On my birthday I started a five day Top End Safari covering Litchfield National Park, Katherine and Kakadu. Up and off by 6.30 and met the rest of the group. All really nice and a real mixture of nationalities - French, German, Belgian, Danish, Ozzie, English and Irish. Despite not knowing them at this point they all got into the spirit of my birthday and I had a great day - visited Mary River Wetlands to 'croc spot', had hot dogs for lunch, did some swimming in the fresh water lakes and then camped out that night after getting fairly wasted round the fire (oh - and our tour guide Andy showed me his python - woohoo! Dont worry it wasnt a very big snake!). Managed to fall over in the dark and hurt my foot but the we had a physio in the group who strapped me up and sent me on my way!
The next day, with a bit of a hangover, we looked at some Aboriginal Rock Art at Ubirr and Andy explained alot about the symbolism, very interesting. We then did some walking through Barramundi Gorge and went swimming in the waterfalls - jumped into a pool and had to swim 2ft down and through an arch to get out - wicked! Camped again that night.
Day three onto Twin Falls. Couldnt swim there due to crocs but did another walk then onto Jim Jim falls where we could swim. I managed to fall over again and cut my leg - was labelled 'Bumblefooted' by Andy as I seemed unable to get through the day without falling over at least once which he thought was hilarious!
Spent the later part of the day climbing up to rock pools at Gunlom falls before sitting and watching the sunset. Beautiful. Slept out in swags under the stars that night which was pretty cool (swags - like mattresses with mossie netting over them that you sleep inside).
Day four drove from Dunlom falls to Katherine Gorge. Did a big walk through the first gorge (there are 13 in total) and had a cooling swim, this is the most exercise I have done for months! Went flying in a helicopter over the gorges that afternoon as the sun was setting and saw how far we had walked. Excellent. Last night on the tour so all got pretty hammered and played the Didgerydoo round the camp fire - well Andy played it well and we all had a pathetic attempt! Four of us slept out in swags again under the stars. A great last night!
Last day and a big old drive back to Darwin. Stopped for a swim in hot springs and to check out Termite Mountains before getting back to Darwin mid afternoon. Went out for dinner with the group - although totally exhausted after such an active week and all my clothes were covered in red dust. Definately my best tour though and I would recommend seeing this part of Oz to anyone who gets the chance as it is FANTASTIC! What a great birthday week!
Spent the next couple of days in Darwin. Unbelievably ran into Baz and Dave who I met in New Zealand and who were staying at the same hostel as me so we caught up on all we had been up to and sunbathed by the pool. Those left from the tour and I went out for dinner and had crocodile and Barramundi - both yum and croc is just like chicken!
As I said now in Bali and at the end of my travels! Two weeks here and then back home next Saturday the 12th. Another update and photos before I leave but have to go now to head down the beach and work on the tan!
Hope you are all well!
